I hope you don't care if I listen in.
-
lamb is forbidden by the Ojibwa. gerbil and cat (!) are the only meats not forbidden by any religion.
-
I'm pretty sure Hindus don't eat any meat, particularly mammals.
-
I MUST CONCUR!
Sad those poor souls cannot partake in such a delectable delicacy! :( -
:P I'm serious!Do you know of any ESTABILISHED religion that is forbidden to eat lamb.OH HE!!,I just opened up another worm can!
-
so what's the question?? .....yes, you can eat lamb... .but if you are really kosher, you can only eat certain parts. ...
-
REALLY sure? I do not know, that's why I'm asking the question.
-
I was just asking if anyone knew if this was true or false.I read it but it sounded strange that there was only one meat that was not forbidden by ANY religion.I found it interesting, not offending.LAMB? whoda thunk it?
-
Maybe goat? I dunno, but can't think of anyone that restricts goat.
They have split hooves but don't chew cud.
I eat everything, so I ain't the best authority on this stuff. -
A couple we are good friends is German/Indian, and she's Hindu. From what she's told us, it's partially a non-violence thing and partially a belief one should not eat from any species that gives milk.
-
Sheep?
-
I understand,I just thought it strange.Wanted an opinion of those that may know for sure.
A person can read anything, that don't make it so.
-
I'm not sure but I THINK lamb, sheep and mutton are considered one in the same.PLEASE don't quote me on that.I read it somewhere.
-
-
Lamb is young sheep/mutton.
-
O.K.NOT being a SMARTA$$ but is she a Hindu priestess? Is that a rule for her RELIGION or her take on it.AGAIN ,not being confrontational, just looking for the truth.

Hey Hoss
Meat (Wikipedia)
Ethics of eating meat
"Ethical issues regarding the consumption of meat can include objections to the act of killing animals or the agricultural practices surrounding the production of meat. Reasons for objecting to the practice of killing animals for consumption may include animal rights, environmental ethics, religious doctrine, or an aversion to inflicting pain or harm on other living creatures. The religion of Jainism has always opposed eating meat, and there are also many schools of Buddhism and Hinduism that condemn the eating of meat. Some people, while not vegetarians, refuse to eat the flesh of certain animals, such as cats, dogs, horses, or rabbits, due to cultural or religious taboo. In some cases, specific meats (especially from pigs and cows) are forbidden within religious traditions. Some people eat only the flesh of animals which they believe have not been mistreated, and abstain from the meat of animals reared in factory farms or from particular products such as foie gras and veal."
So I guess your statement would be false, lamb is forbidden by some religions.
Good question Hoss.

yep! That's what I was taught in Animal Husbandry.
-
Nooo, not a priestess, just a casual practitioner. She eats meat at times, but prefers not to. I asked once, and that is what she told me.
-
That's what I was lookin for! Thanks GB.I did not think it was true but knew someone on here could answer my question.THANK YOU!
-
I guess I misinterpreted the story. It stated that lamb was the only meat not forbibben in any,I don't kow how to say this nice,MAJOR religion. My bad!
So,I guess that could be true. -
Interesting...
I have always thought that lamb (sheep), goat and deer were all in the same fanily. -
The Jain religion (India) forbids eating any type of meat.
Vegetarianism is a way of life for a Jain, taking its origin in the concept of compassion for living beings, Jiva Daya. The practice of vegetarianism is seen as an instrument for the practice of nonviolence and peaceful, cooperative coexistence. Jains are strict vegetarians, consuming only one-sensed beings, primarily from the plant kingdom. While the Jain diet does, of course, involve harm to plants, it is regarded as a means of survival which involves the bare minimum amount of violence towards living beings. ( Many forms of plant material, including roots and certain fruits, are also excluded from the Jain diet due to the greater number of living beings they contain owing to the environment in which they develop.)__________________________________________Dripping Springs, Texas.Just west of Austintatious
