I came across this cart while searching for something else, and was wondering if anyone had experience with it, and if so how was the build quality?

I am about to have a wood table built, but have concerns about the sun exposure out here.. This would cost a few hundred more, but should hold up better i would think(although get hot in the sun)..

Thoughts?

Holy Smokes, that's expensive. You could build a table for a couple HUN and apply a nice finish to it.
  • I looked at that cart online a couple of weeks ago. As you know, that's a large in the pictures they provided not an XL. What I didn't like about it was that neither the storage cabinet nor drawers looked large enough to house the plate setter and pizza stone.

Ya i could, but the way i want to build my table is going to cost me roughly 7-800 when said and done..

Good observation.. I am going to try and shoot an email to them and see if i can get the dimensions of the cabinet/drawers.

but then it will be exactly what you want - not what they wanted. Sounds to me like you don't have a problem with the cost - therefore why not custom design it yourself for something totally unique?

This is an old photo but I was shooting for the $50- $60 custom table.
If I was going to drop $1000 I would go for whole cooking Island thing.

  • Have you priced out the BGE cypress tables yet? My Large table was about $300, and with a a good stain and a few layers of spar urethane it's held up well. Granted, I'm not in your part of the country, but heck, even if it lasted 1/3 as long as the stainless table, you'd be money ahead over at least a decade. Plus it's got more surface area, and I've never wished I had a smaller table.

wonder how hot to the touch the stainless would be in direct summer sun. plus depending on stainless grade, it could rust, especially at weld joints. t

I haven't really looked into that table, because i want some cabinets/drawers to hold accessories..

Also the reason it is going to cost so much is due to the fact that i want to use either granite tile, or glass mosiac tile on the top.
  • Granite looks nice with stainless, good idea.

Be aware that a lot of the accessories with an XL will be extra-large themselves and will quickly fill your drawers (and we don't wanna be filling our drawers here :woohoo: ). Plus drawers tend to be harder to clean than simple shelves. I went with a low-cost plastic cabinet to hold mine, and when it gets sooty and gritty enough from putting things from the Egg into it, I just clear it out and power-wash it:

I want to do something similar to this
    tablethesteelworkerspecial.jpg

But possibly a little longer. That will give me a drawer/cabinet atleast 24" wide, with the big cabinet being roughly 18+" tall..

I just think it looks a bit nicer in my yard, without all my "junk" exposed...lol
  • Heh...this thread is spiralling off to somewhere we don't want to go, I think. :woohoo:

I had worked up plans for a table much like that, but I deleted them after I priced the lumber and found out it was going to cost me several times what the BGE table would. I sent them to a couple of members here at the time...Let me look through my old emails and see if it's still in an attachment.

Yea, it is most definetly not a cheap option, and is going to run me 7-800 probably with granite tile top..

It will be made out of white oak, with oak plywood.

I am debating if i want to stain it, or just have it finished naturally..

You could probably find a trim carpenter/woodworker or a custom cabinet shop to build it for you. That way you get the size and accessories you want. Heck, if you were in Florida I would build it for you. :)

I like that one! If you decide on a more open cart though, please don't post pics. We do NOT want to see your junk! :woohoo:

If you buy the stainless model, you will have solar powered side burners. No extra charge. Seriously.

Re oak plywood, if exposed to moisture, waterproof glue I hope?

    Good luck!

That is what i am doing.. I found a guy on CL, and he has sent me some drawings, and we are trying to finalize price, etc..

One local place quoted me 2100...LOL Ya ok..
  • with the economy the way it is i would bet you could have one built and have stucco put on it for less then the cart you have listed
  • Prehaps in mid-summer you could sear the steaks on the stainless table then finish them on the egg.... Just kidding. It looks like a nice table, but in all honesty I, personally, would build one. I just think you will be better satisfied with the end product and the savings you can earn.
  • I did find the plans and I've printed them to a PDF file (unless you can read a .dwg file, that is). If you'd like a copy, such as they are, just let me know.

Go to the NAKED WHIZ website and look at the tables on it. You might be able to get some ideas from his site.

Shoot me an email and I'll send the PDF or, if you can open it, the DWG file.
  • Hi. Please send a copy to kmock@sprynet.com. I am collecting plans to use in my permanent build. Thanks!
