I go through the same with my wife. I like my steak rare/medium rare and she likes hers medium. What is your routine to do both steaks rare and medium rare?
Thanks.

If you TRex them, let the one you want the least done rest five minutes longer than the other.
If you hot tub, put the one you want the least done on the grill five minutes after the other.
If you do a straight cook, pull one and cover it with foil while waiting for the other to finish. -
I understand the hot tub and straight cooks but you lost me on the TRex. I like my steak medium rare and my wife likes them med rare to med. You are saying that the one I want medium rare is to rest longer than the one to be done medium? Why? To me it would seem the other way around.

when it's resting, it's sitting on a plate, while the other is on the grill

I usually buy steaks that are different thickness and then cook them literally the same amount of time. Sear them together. The one you want to be more done goes back on the grill for the roast period a few minutes before the one you want less done ... therefore it cooks more and is more done.
They should finish close to the same time this way. -
I really have to think it through. I like ribeyes or strips rare and my wife only eats filets medium. Makes it a challenge to get them done close to the same time.

Gotcha, I was thinking that they both get pulled at the same time but on e rests for an extra five.
