OK, Ladies and Jellyspoons. Exactly how many baby backs or spare ribs can you get on a large BGE? I am trying to find out so I can plan for feeding this hoard that lives at my house. It's myself my wife and the daughter and son in law. My wife and I eat normally but the other two must have been horses in their previous lifes. Anyway, is it possible to get rib racks on a BGE and have them fit right? Any answers will greatly appreciated.

StubbyQ, I have a large BGE and on mothers day I had the privlege and the honor of cooking for my entire family. I had 5 slabs from Costo that were vey large, and they fit on the grill just fine with the inverted rib-roast rack. I have a friend who just uses home depot rib racks. 5 slabs of ribs and 2 beer butt chickens was way too much for 9 people, so we had plenty of left overs.

    StubbyQ,[p]That's easy.[p]One rack for you
One rack for your wife[p]Two salt licks for your daughter and son in law.[p]BTW, here's a hint...don't get the salt licks too close to the ribs..it'll suck the moisture out of the pork like there's no tomorrow. Pork jerky is good for nobody..well.that's not entirely true....it might be good for your daughter and son in law..bein horses and all.[p]StumpBaby

Sounds good, but there might be a revolt on my hands.

    StubbyQ,[p]The peasants are revolting!!!
    They stink on ice!!![p]
Seriously though..I got my rib rack at home depot..I don't have a large egg..I got a medium, but even with that medium..and that one rib rack (made by charbroil if I remember right) I've cooked plenty enough ribs for 6 folks. I have to cut the full racks in half..but I get a lot in there. I try not to let them touch each other..so the smoke gets all around them..but even if they do touch a little bit..it's all good. My brother..in his large..uses the inverted turkey roaster rack thingie..and he can easily fit 7 full racks of baby backs in his large. I'm envious..I must admit...but wait..you were asking how many should you cook...hmmm..I don't know..I'd normally say a full rack of baby backs a piece is waaaaay more then enough....but with them being horses in previous lives (he honey...why such a long face?)..you just don't know...I'd say for you and the Misses..plan on a rack and a half total..max..but for them old horses..who knows..not me...do horses even like pork..hmmm..I don't know..maybe 3 racks between them..and with the 1.5 you'll cook for you and the misses..throw in the other half a rack..I'd say five max..and you'll probably have more than enough..but then again..they're horses..and I'm a Stump..so...[p]StumpBaby

    StubbyQ,
Well I'm suprised its not posted yet. But the record racks on a Egg is about 20, Somewhere there is a picture of this. I cant remember who did it, but in time it will show up.

  • tach18k,[p]I think it was Chef Wil. He packed something like 20 racks on his large egg. Don't tell Wil..but for a week...I had rack envy.[p]LB

  • StubbyQ, If you're looking for a rack, I bought a roast rack that is almost exactly like the BGE rack at Academy Sports store for $10.
