Warm Water Lobster?
Village Idiot
Posts: 6,959
My grocery store (HEB, Houston) is selling previously frozen Warm Water Lobster tails for $899 (8 oz).
I love lobster but don't know much about them. Two questions: is that a good price, and is warm water lobster anywhere near as good as Maine lobster?
Thanks.

I don't know how much lobster goes for but a 8 oz tail for almost nine hundred dollars is insane!

The price is competitive. Lobster season in Florida is starting in Aug and ends in Mar 31.The lobster from warm waters are a little firmer than maine, but just as good IMHO. I like to split the back and cook at 350 indirect with lemon butter to baste. Be carful not to dry out. When they are turning from opaque to white get ready to eat.

I think I'd rather buy another large and a few accessories, for that price.

Dag gone right :P

i seen something somewhere(i know lots of reliability in that statment) but they said that if you buy lobster tails in the store they are spiney lobsters the majority of time.. so i would cook them as you usually would
happy eggin

Those were the one's selling for $6.99 at our new H.E.B. when it opened. Only ours were closer to a pound. We still have some in the freezer.
Our neighbor steamed some a couple of nights ago and said they were absolutely delicious. Our first attempt was direct on the Egg and I think I over cooked them. Not bad but not as good as the regular $13 per pound would suggest. Might steam the next batch.
Oh yea, our H.E.B. had Prime Ribeyes on sale the other day at $6.99 a pound (1+" thick) but I didn't get any.
H.E.B. is definitely the place to be.

Thanks Richard. That, and a TRex steak ought to be a dang good meal.

Leroy,
There's a new HEB at Bissonnet at Buffalo Speedway (a long way from you) that's a cross between Central Market and a regular HEB .... high quality, good prices, and great selections. It's going to be my preferred store.__________________________________________Dripping Springs, Texas.Just west of Austintatious -
A good bottle of your favorite wine makes it an even better meal.

We don't have a H.E.B around here but we are having Ribeye's tonight that we got at Sam's for 5.99 lb. They cut them to our specs, 1 1/2 inches. The butcher said he would take them if we didn't want them
We took them, four beauties  -
Capt'n,
HEB is a Texas grocery chain, started by Howard E. Butt from Corpus Christie. In Houston, it has historically been a 2nd tier grocery, but lately, they have really come up in the world.__________________________________________Dripping Springs, Texas.Just west of Austintatious -
But of course.
I have 2004 Telteca Malbec in mind.__________________________________________Dripping Springs, Texas.Just west of Austintatious -

I Happen to like FL lobster tail as much or more than Maine lobster. Main does have good claws.

That price is waaaay out of my league. But I'm okay with warm water lobster. In fact, lobster tail and beer are three of my favorite things. Heheheee.
