has anyone tried drilling through a pizza stone w/a masonary bit? will it crack?

  • Nope it will not. Might punch a little out the back side, but it works perfectly. I have a broken dome lying out back and drilled a few holes for some people who wanted an extra for a thermometer. I drilled about five or six holes in it and all worked out fine IMO.

Can I ask why you want to drill your stone?
  • thanks for the info.

i am planning on building my own diy 3 grate set up. while studying other peoples homemade set ups, i see that they use a water pan on a 4th grate as a plate setter.

i hate water pans, so i was considering hanging an old pizza stone as the "plate setter" for the 4th grate.

not sure how it all fits yet, but these are the things i come up with when i should be focusing on other more productive things.
  • What could be more productive than thinking up new and eggciting projects for the BGE. I spent some time Sunday working on a handle system for my BGE table while I was supposed to be working on our bathroom.   B)
  • ceramic drill will work just fine. Put a piece of duct tape on both sides to prevent splintering.
