  • Yes it will. Load the lump almost all of the way to the top of the fire ring. You might want to make sure to have a couple of big peices at the bottom to ensure proper air flow. I don't worry too much with stacking like some folks on here, but for a long low and slow, I do make sure to have a couple of big peices at the bottom and then pretty much dump the rest. Also, you probably want to start with a good clean egg (get all of the ash out). If the temp starts to drop well into the cook, you may want to get a coat hanger, bend it at 90degrees and "snake" out the holes in the fire grate. Sometimes the ashes will clog the grate and prevent good air flow. Good luck.
  • I generally get between 16 and 18 hours of cooking at 250 dome with a full load of lump. Like the previous poster mentioned that is all the way to the top of the fire ring. The few times I run out of lump before the butts are done, I throw them in the oven to finish. The medium egg is a great size that can cook a whole 13 lb brisket packer or two 9lb butts.

I'm not sure why CE doesn't get a longer cook time with his. Perhaps a change in brand of lump will help a bit. Cowboy brand may burn a little quicker. My Medium routinely gets 20 or more hours when I use it for overnight stuff. No need to add charcoal. I use Royal Oak. Follow Smoking Coals advice and you should be fine. Have fun!
  • Gandolf has a good point, the kind of charcoal does matter. Wicked Good, BGE or RO should get you 19 or 20 hours. Doubtful that cowboy will.

Ditto what Gandolf and Cookin Biker said. I use Cowboy and haven't had to add lump on a lo-n-slo.
