need some digi Q help COLD WEATHER issue

gettin ready to put a 9# butt on at 7pm and the egg is settling down to 230 on the Q. Well I just went out and the light for the fan to turn on was flashing to have the fan pluse and the fan was frozen.... Moisture that builds up inside.... oh boy its 5 degrees out what to do now? I changed the fan position so that the Guru sticker is facing up. Is there a better way so the water doesnt freeze and ruin my cook tonight?

    It's been roughly the same temp here today and my large has been purring along at 200 for hours doing some BB bacon. Haven't ever played with those things and haven't really needed one.

    That's dome. The new Tel-Tru has a long probe (5") and I have the Maverick pit probe dangling inside the daisy. Both have been 197-210 for quite some time. Meat is 129 now.

    SH!t think the mini is 1000, gotta go.

    No, just fired the little guy up and done forgot about it. It was only 750 or so. Did up a nice Porterhouse for the boys and I. Artichokes all around. :)

    Dave,

    This last while (few months) there have been several posts of the digiq fans freezing. Most have mentioned moisture getting in the fan.

    I have had mine for several hard cold winters and never have had a problem. If it has been or is raining/snowing I put the blades facing downwards towards the ground and use some kind of water protection over the top. Often mid winter the temperature during the night is well below 0°.

    If your fan is frozen now turn off the q2 and take the fan inside to get it moving again. Keep in mind that adapter hole in the lower vent is a lot of air. So get some foil and a pencil. Cover the hole and poke a small hole in the foil so you don't put the fire out. Watch the upper vent and have it close enough your fire won't run away.

    If you have some canned air blow out the fan to get the moisture out or use a hair dryer. If the air coming out of the hair dryer is too hot for your hand it it too hot for the fan.

    Don't 'high speed' the fan blades with forced air, you can freeze up the magnets in the fan. Also, keep in mind dust can get into magnet area of the fan & fan blades and cause problems also.

    You should be able to get the q2 blower up and going in a very short amount of time.

    I've had that problem. With mine the moisture came from inside the Egg, dripped out the bottom vent. When the drip came toward the fan it was turned to mist and created a little sheet of ice in front of the actual fan inside the unit.

    I don't know the source of your moisture, so I can't speak to the solution, but GG knows his stuff, and what he says makes sense to me. When I did my last overnight cook after Christmas, I went without the Digi. I didn't sleep worth a hoot, but the butts stayed steady and did their thing.

    I had it not fan down but fan sideways when it froze, There must of been just a DROP of water stickin it. As soon as i fliped it over and turned the impeller thing with my finger it has been fine since.

    I love my DigiQII and it does a great job. the pit has been at 233 dead on all night never changed a degree up or down. Everyone that has bought eggs from us and DigiQ's loves them for the low and slow cook. I did a brikit for 17 hours 2 weeks ago at 210 and the temp never moved it stayed right at 210.

    Btw the butt is at 179 now been on for 13 hours...

    That's good news, glad to here there was just some resistance on the fan assembly.

    I love my DigiQII and would purchase another should the need arise. I also love the Stoker. If I had to get rid of one of them I would put them both up and be happy with what went last.

    Both products do what they are supposed to do perfectly and both had their individual advantages.
