Went duck hunting today...
Firetruck

and came home and had to cook chicken!
 Yep we got had today. Those birds have been shot at so much they are leary of decoys.
Anyway I brined a whole bag of leg qtrs for about 24 hrs and then dried them, added bad byrons, and put them back in the fridge for another 24 hrs. When I got home from hunting tonight I had to get them done, so on the large they went indirect, raised grid, at 400 with some apple chunks. I just pulled them off at 185* and man we couldn't control ourselves. We just had to have one. The rest went in the fridge for tonight. Some will be frozen tomorrow for future meals.

Looks good, JoJo.
Sorry to hear about the ducks!
Saturday (and maybe Sunday) will be my last chances to hunt this season. I hope the cold weather coming will bring some down this way! -
I have hunted on Old Hickory Lake in Nashville and had the worst season ever! I swear they need to make the season extended into February. 60 degrees on Saturday and 33 degrees now! Only in TN, I guess. Great looking cook though! Never thought about using my V-Rack for thighs.

When does the season close?

So Daffy is safe?

I duck hunted for 3 years around 1995. We always stumpjumped as we called it. Mostly sit in flooded timber up to our waste in water, leaned up against a tree in the 20 degree weather. It's definately not a sport for the weak. We had a sweet little hole though. It was about 20 acres of flooded land partly timber. It was also a roosting hole. We could limit in about 30 to 45 minutes late in the evening.

I said to my wife, 'Where do you want to go for our anniversary?' She said, 'I want to go somewhere I've never been before.' I said, 'Try the kitchen.'

JoJo, wish you would have saved me some duck legs for my cassoulet! Those look great, no wonder you couldn't wait to eat them.

JoJo.............that's it..... life is full of minor adjustments we have to make on the road.....normally for the best or least worst.....

Amen brother

Been fighting that weather battle for years.
The V rack was a last minute idea as I was trying to figure out how to get 11 leg qtrs on without piling them up. Worked great. -

Check he is. Now it's "wabbit season"..."duck season"..."wabbit season"...

JoJo,
Sorry for the slow day. Your yardbirds look incredible though.
Pretty slow up here as well. This was about the highlight of my fowl season. These two avoided a few guys from our group on the other side of the lake. They then came straight for me.
Starting the day with a double is kinda fun.
We spent most of this season chasing upland. Our Grouse numbers are finally towards the top of the cycle.

Those are sweet. I've had the privilege to do that a few times but land around here is all locked up and I can only do that when the rivers flood. Even then you gotta be careful about trespassing.
-
I appreciate it. Hard to compete with the warm weather.
-
Rebecca, they were great. I just hope they will still be close to as good after they have been reheated.
-
You are right
-
Nice! We don't get much chance at those down here. Every now and then they get curious and make a low pass.
-
That looks really good
-
THanks Big George

So if I can convince the wife to make a weekend trip would I need a TN license or an AR license?
