Quick Lunch On the Griddle Q
Spring Chicken
Posts: 10,255
I thought I would enjoy a Philly Cheesesteak sandwich for lunch. Fired up Lily Large, drug out my Griddle Q and commenced to cutting some onions and bell peppers. By they time I finished that the Griddle Q was able to bounce water drops. Just right. On went the peppers and onions, soon followed by a store-bought clump of frozen cheesesteak meat, then a sub roll. Added some salt and pepper and that was it.
Within a couple of minutes it was done and the sub roll toasted. Squirted on some Cheese Whiz and scooped on the meat, onions and peppers.
Delicious.
See...

Now I've got to figure out how to lose an ounce today. Yes, the die(t) continues.

looks good Leroy! and quick & easy too. I've gotten spoiled - we just had a small hole in the wall restaurant open here last year called Billy's Phillys. It's a mom & pop thing who just moved here from Philadelphia. I say spoiled because his claim to fame is he has the terrific tasting rolls flown in daily from some bakery in Philly. They taste like nothing we can buy here. It's a real niche market in an out of the way part of town - not sure they will make it, but I'll patronize them while they are here.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

Looks good. I'm hungry! MMMmmmm cheese whiz.

Yea, I know what you mean about small mom & pop businesses. There's no way they can get rich doing it and they may even lose their shirt, but you gotta give 'em credit for trying. And you've gotta support them as if their lives depend on you, because it does.
The fact that they have the right kind of bread flown in fresh is a good indication that they know what they are doing. If they get half a break in the local market they might do well.
I decided to give up the rat race and just let the rats win. It's almost unAmerican to do it but I would be prematurely dead if I kept at it.
By the way, I gave my gas grill away and now I don't have a gasser to use my large Griddle Q on. I may have to buy a new gas grill just for my Griddle Q.

Yep! Cheese Whiz... Only because I saw on TV that it's the 'proper' sauce on a genuine Philly Cheesesteak. But I understand there are other opinions about it. Tasted good to me and it was only the third one I've ever eaten.

But then where would I put it? The Coop is full of Eggs and other stuff right now. I've learned from Eggsperience that a gasser can be used to keep Egg'd food warm while cooking something else. And gassers work well with Griddle Q's.

Cheetos can be sides, and often are here at the Chicken Ranch.

Dang Leroy, that looks great :woohoo: I just remembered that I still need to modify my Qriddle-Q to fit my XL
-
Doug, you must have really scrubbed that thing hard to get it THAT clean.
-
That looks good enough for government work but good enough for serious Griddle Q'in g. You need to get a gasser like I'm gonna have to do.

They clean up pretty easily after a cook but every now and then I douse it with oven cleaner and let it set for a few hours. Comes out looking like new.

Looks good Leroy! Dang. Nice work.
Chuck (longtime egger, Dizzy Pig team mate, and holder of "Chuck" here on the egg forum...and who lives on the NJ side of Philly) cooks up the best I've ever had.
Cheers to cheese steaks on the egg, and life in the coop! And you and the hen.
Chris -
I never had Philly Cheesesteaks sandwiches growing up. Never even heard of them until I was in the Army and for some reason I never had one. Then I saw Bobby Flay do a throwdown and I wanted one real bad.
Had one, kinda liked it but thought I could do it just as well. Just had to figure out how.
I did pretty good on this one and will do even better on the next one. It's so easy on the Egg and using a Griddle Q.
