Here's the thing,I have company and she is trying to piggy back my wireless signal and it's not working.
Can I just buy another USB modem, give her the disk and share my connection that I pay Verizon $60 a month for or???
I don't want to do the router thing and have no clue about it. Help Please.
Thanks,
Bordello

quickest approach is to call your wireless router (linksys, Nexgear, whowever made it) and have them walk you through it. They will need your WEP code and password. Don't worry if you don't have an idea what I am talking about, they do and will walk you through it. It is the lowest level of support for a wireless modeom company. (ex-CIO)
-
or if you have an Aircard from verizon that is a side mounted usb connect then call Verizon, tell them what you are doing and they will walk you through it. Excellent customer support (son and daughter-in-law are managers with Verizon.)
-
You could also set up your wireless as an ad hoc server if she is right there in the house with you.
-
Simple answer.. NOT Tonight..
First of all Broadband Wireless (Verizon) uses the EDVO protocol and the normal wireless uses 801.11G They are not compatible.
Now if if you have a crossover cable and the time to setup Peer to Peer networking it will work. -
Running Windows Vista, This stuff is way beyond me. Can I just buy another USB bodem an let her use it???
She's not here so I can't ask what program she is using.
Thanks to all,

:( I'm not real savvy on this stuff, but I use Quest and have the wireless protected with a password. I've given it out twice and they've been able to access the internet that way...did the same thing at Cookin Biker's house with son's laptop; she also has Quest. Don't know if this will work for you or not, though. Good luck
-
Bordello, it will probably work after you post a picture of your wirelss-sharing-friend. You know pictures work miracles.

here is a tutorial on how to setup a computer on a linksys router. they all fairly much follow the same process.

Thank you,
Yes I have a Verizon USB side modem. Thank you for telling me. I'm on the bashful side do don't ask.

i believe you can do a peer-peer (ad-hoc). I've done it in hotels where the internet is wired and there was 3 of us sharing the room. The wired one simply shared the connection with the other two.

He could if he wasn't using Broadband Wireless. He has an EDVO card plugged into his computer, not Wireless LAN card.
-
He is not using a router. He has a USB Broadband Wireless Card.
-
Yes you can go to Verizon and get another USB Card. She'll be able to get out on the internet, but you won't be able to connect to each other local.
It most likely will involved another monthly charge.. -
Isn't a connection just a connection? I might be wrong. I would thing the bandwidth would just be lower.
-
actually, if you read all his posts he has both, a wireless on his Qwest router (DSL or Cable) and he has a verizon air card. i am pretty sure that is what we are looking at. i had Qwest in MPLS. he also has verizon usb air card. He can do either, have her sign in on his household wireless or he can have her borrow his aircard. my wife and i swap her aircard all the time. indoor is the wireless household best route. if i misunderstand i apoligize for any confusion. now off to bed for me
