I was making lunch on Lily Large today and it dawned on me that, to my knowledge, no one has cooked any grapes on the Egg. So while she was still hot and only slightly bothered I tried it with a little applewood. I thought it turned out pretty good.

Take a look...

  • Interesting. How did they taste other than good? Did you use a rub or other seasoning?

You forgot to thank the BGE for bringing the heat.

Probably tastes like rasins...nice video with tranquil music
  • Yea I guess I should have thanked BGE for something but I did all the work.

As for how I cooked them, I just laid 'em on the grid for maybe a total of three minutes @ 350° direct, turning 'em over a couple of times.

The first batch was without smoke. Kinda boring. So I put a few small applewood chips on for the second batch. They only smoked about a minute but I could taste the smoke.

Personally, I think this could be added to the wine-making process to produce a smoked wine. But I would have to defer to a wine expert for that.

I also noticed that the fairly bitter (out of season) grapes tasted sweeter while warm. Perhaps the heat will also turn up the flavonoids to make them even more healthy.

I think I may do it again with the remaining grapes and this time maybe put some cayenne on them. That should give them some kick in addition to the sweet.

  • Thanks. I like tranquil.

No, the grapes tasted more like 'enhanced' grapes. They were still very juicy, so much so that I was tempted to mash some into grape juice to see how that would taste. Maybe next time.

you can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it
  • That would really screw up the pea that rolls around in my brain hole. LOL

But worth a shot. Couldn't be much worse than lawn clippings.

can't think of it as "tranquil" cause the movie uses it to set the scene -- then the thrills come
