OT - 2010 Diet Resolution Update
Spring Chicken
Posts: 10,255
Like many of you I decided to lose some weight during 2010. And knowing that traditional methods of dieting usually end up not working I set out to solve that problem before I even started.
Before I tell you how much I lost read what I did to make it happen.
It seems that all diets measure progress in "pounds lost." To most people a 'pound' is a lot of weight and losing many 'pounds' is an impossible task both physically and mentally. But my approach is to just lose one ounce per day. Yes, just one ounce.
Think about it, an ounce a day is easy to lose for anyone without their having to change their eating habits or lifestyle. Just decide on what you plan to do today to lose that one ounce. It could be eating two strips of bacon instead of four at breakfast, or drinking a glass of water with lunch instead of a soda, or perhaps having two beers in the evening instead of three. Any decrease in consumption is easily manageable day after day after day.
Throw in a little exercise, not much, and it is even easier to lose that ounce.
If you take those simple steps day by day you will have lost 23 pounds over the course of one year. For many, that's enough to take them out of the "morbid obesity" range and down to just "obese" or even the "slightly overweight" category and definitely within their ultimate goal of being “perfect.”
The good part about this diet is you really don’t have to deny yourself the pleasures of great food or even feel guilty while enjoying it. Just keep in mind that “all I have to do is lose an ounce by tomorrow.” Even if you didn’t lose that ounce you are still only one or two days off your daily goal. That’s easy to handle, both physically and emotionally.
So some of you are probably asking “how’s it working for you, Fat Boy?” And I’m here to tell you that as of right this minute I have lost 77 ounces since January 1, 2010. That’s five times my daily goal and I haven’t changed anything about my life. In fact, I had ribs, sweet potato, baked beans and cornbread for dinner last night and beef fajitas accompanied by two margaritas at our favorite Mexican restaurant the night before. All that and I’m still over two months ahead of my goal to lose an ounce a day.
The “Ounce ‘a Day Diet” works. Give it a try and you will see just how easy and uncomplicated it is.
You’re welcome.
