My husband makes awesome cubans that are over the top. He did a post a while back with step by step. When I talk to him I'll have him send you the link. He goes as far as to order cuban bread from Miami.

all you need is a castiron fry pan and either a second pan or maybe a foil wrapped brick all heated up. dont limit yourself to just pure cuban ones, place near me mahes a cajun chicken with mango and red onions etc. heres there menu

  • The post given by vidalia1 is about as good as they get, I don't know how I missed that one but it looks great.

I have never made them on the egg. I know a little Cuban restaurant in Cape Coral (Rincon Cubano) that makes a great Cuban Sandwich for less then $4.

I would think Miami would be prime territory for finding world class Cuban sandwiches. Some of the little Latino/Hispanic markets will make them. I also find lump charcoal at some of these markets that you will not find elsewhere. I get Viva Pancho 100% Mesquite Charcoal at one of these markets in Fort Myers and love it for steaks or mix it with my Royal Oak for other cooks.

    Have a great day,

    Gator

    Anne,

His sammys and post got me making them and on my favorites list for sure. Although I may take the extra measure with the bread someday, cause if mine have a downside, it's the Ciabatta I have used.

You're right Gator, there's a great place in Coconut Grove that we go out of our way to go to when we're passing through Miami, it's called Latin America. It is the BEST most authentic Cuban food. It would be easier to go there than to get all the ingredients to make your own.

You guys should try the Versailles on Calle Ocho next time you pass through Miami. Terrific Cuban food and the best Cuban sandwich I've ever had.

Thanks Rod! Del and I lived in Miami for a few years and I've never heard of that one. I'll be sure to check it out next trip.

I'm not a very discriminating Cuban diner, but I thought it was very good.

    Rod,

The last time I was in Miami on business I ate at Versailles three out of four nights. The fourth night I hosted some customers or I would have eaten there four times.

It is great cuban food. The cuban sandwich and the palmillo steak are my two faves. Don't miss the tostones and maduros. Fwiw all.

Del's Cuban sandwhich looks as authentic as they come. Yum.

Fidel and troutman, I really like Versailles as well. The restaurant has good authentic Cuban food and their bakery is quite nice. Hope you took the time to smoke a cigar with the old guys in the outdoor cafe out front!

Here is the set-up I use for that style of pressed & grilled sandwiches..... Not sure if that is what you are after or not.

If you are after the marinade for meats, I have a Sour Orange Mojo recipe on my site that is pretty good.
