Hello,[p]Does anyone have a recommendation for a good instant read thermometer for meat? I bought the Maverick RT73 for smoking but I need a good one for steaks. [p]Thanks,
Kenny

    PackerFan,
Thermapen for $70 has a quick read range from -50° to 572° is a favorite of many of us here.

    PackerFan,
I also use a Thermapen....it is expensive tho. But it does everything they claim.[p]Wess

PackerFan, Here is another vote for a thermapen. I purchased the "instant" read model in bright yellow. I figured the brighter the color the better so I can easily find it. What happens when all my "toys" are bright yellow? Hmmmm....[p]BeerMike

Thanks for the input. As they say "What seperates the men from the boys is the price of their toys!". I have a cheap thermometer, not an instant read but I didn't want to poke a hole in the steaks. [p]Kenny[p]

PackerFan, don't be mislead - the Thermapen will poke a tiny hole in your meat, but at that stage of cooking little juice will be lost from that pin prick!

    PackerFan,
I have had a Thermapen for three years and love it.

  • RRP, which probe-tip configuration did you select, and why?

    George,
I have standard probe which comes on the 211-276 Super Fast model which means yellow. It has a small, and quite sharp point which is protected when the probe is closed similiar to a jack knife. BTW that also turns off the power.

I would definitly get the fastest reading one.[p]I have an older (6 - 7 years) and it seems like it takes 'forever' to get up to temperature.[p]Toy Man
