They are 2 rectangle pieces of plastic with holes. These are the shipping restraints for the hinge assembly and hold the hinge when it or the bands are not attached to the egg or dome.

Had to replace a gasket on a large recently and used heavay plastic cable ties. One on each side of the hinge. Worked great.

That, or a couple of rounds of kitchen twine works great too.

I used a number of twists of electrical (bell) wire on each hinge - worked fine.
