Butt reheat question...whole butt

A group of folks here in Augusta are cooking for some folks in need this season, and was wondering if one of you veterans would share your experience/thought/ or best guess on reheating a completed butt. It will be about 6 lbs after the cook. Still whole.

I just need to enclose some simple reheat instructions for the family to follow.

They will already be double foiled in HDAF. I would love to say just reheat on 350* for ???

Thanks in advance,

Hitch

  • put it in a cooler and there'll be no need to rehaet.

tough to reheat a whole butt. takes more energy to melt the gelatin than it does to make the gelatin from the collagen in the first place. it's why reheated but is drier than when it is right from the smoker.

wrap the butt in foil, and put it in a cooler that is small enough to hold it but not too big.

it will keep a loooong time. 6 hours is probably a small stretch. might be better to delay the cook so the hold time is four or five hours.

if reheating is the only option, you should shred it first, then reheat already pulled.

Thanks SS for the reply. I would love to do it just as you say, but the butt is being cooked 3 days early. I just cannot do it at any other time. Also, I will not have the ability to pull it right after the cook. Basically, I was wanting to know if there is a good way (not a great way) to reheat a whole butt.

    Thanks,

If you can, while it's still warm pull the large muscles apart from each other and then wrap. It'll be much quicker to warm up that way which I do at 270 until I get it warm.

That is a great and doable idea. About how long does it take you to warm up 4-5 chunks of pork at 270*?

Probably about an hour but don't hold me to that. If you start running close on time you can bump up the temp.
