Dropped my Thermapen

...on the concrete, cold and wet. Sounded horrible, but it was just the battery cover coming off I think. Of course the battery rolled to a hard to reach place. Meanwhile my date is inside on the couch sipping wine and listening to REO Speedwagon's "You get what you play for". Not able to crawl around under the patio table in a pair of nice jeans and shirt, I played it cool. So after I was done impressing the lovely young lady with grilled chicken with General Tso's glaze, I retrieved & quickly inserted the battery. YES, this non water resistant model is still working fine.

I retrieved the battery, quickly inserted and "YES".
We are still talking about the thermapen, right?

I'm lost,,, Is this about the thermapen's resistant to shock or your ability to keep your jeans clean or maybe that the chicken came out good? So did she leave? is the thermapen OK? and would you pass on the recipe for the chicken? PS what was the wine???

I dropped my old style Thermapen on the concrete two days ago. It seems to take longer to stabilize and 'seems' like it is giving wrong readings.

I need to check the boiling point and ice bath temperatures. I sure don't want to have to buy another one just yet.

There aren't internal any moving parts - the electronics are all solid-state. I doubt a shock from dropping would do anything besides cosmetic damage to the case. Worst case you could crack the LCD.

Unless you dropped it with the probe extended and it landed probe down. I guess that could cause some damage to the wiring between the probe and the circuit board.

Maybe I spoke to soon. And not sure if it hit tip down or not, it was open.
It now measures 209 in boiling water, whereas last week it was perfect 212.

So the question is: Do I assume the 3 degree difference is static and easy to compensate for, OR rather is it now on a slippery slope of failure and misreadings?

Boiling point at our altitude and at today's barometric pressure is 210.3&deg - so I wouldn't worry too much about it.
