Blizzard Butt Update ...

Pepper Monkey BBQ

Posted last night stating I was riding out the MD blizzard with the egg burning and a butt on at midnight. Set the Guru to 220 and went to bed. Woke up at 6 to check ... lots of snow and 30 mph winds ... nice! STILL snowing ... cooked the 8.5 lb butt for 16 hrs ..... oh man it was gooooooooooood!!!! Well worth braving the elements.
Sorry for all the pics ... nothing else to do when you are snowed in!
All egg photos are under 'shelter' but the high winds caused snow to pile up everywhere!
Injected with own sauce ... ready to rub.
Used home made rub ... wrapped in plastic wrap and placed outside (34 deg) for two hours prior to cooking.
Up at 6 am ... this is what I had to work with ... stashed the cyberQ in a tupperware ... about 6" of snow thus far.
16 hrs later ... snow has doubled ... butt is ready to pull.
Snow Gauge
Just how water resistant is a water resistant blower fan?????
Normal for some this time of year, not us here in MD.
Well worth the wait!
Pulled and ready to eat
Final close up. Good pork.

mattesoncreations,
Man that looks good. Funny how ya don't feel like doing overnights this time of year but the food looks like summer.

Looks great..and we are still getting snow also..I'm amazed you could maintain temps with that fan adapter installed like that...it is NOT sealed the way it is supposed to be..but apparently you got through it anyway..Enjoy..

Doing a butt in driving snow is just the best...like telling Mother Nature she's not in charge of our 'cue.

I got to get me one of those fancy snow gauges!
Looking good... That's some serious meat. Way to heat up that snowstorm! -
I agree ... I noticed that when I took this photo! Worked out fine though. I don't think it was like that the entire time.... I think I bumped it a few minutes before when I was clearing out some excess snow.
-
If you maintained consistent temps it most likely wasn't like that the whole time..glad it was a success..
Merry Christmas to you and yours.. -
Nice looking pork!! That's what's great about the eggs!!

The one thing you have to watch is condensation build up on the guru fan. I had that happen on a really cold night and ice built up inside there. I noticed the temp drop and was able to find that right away.

Great looking butt there Jo. Hope you don't mind me saying ... 1) I would have cooked more than one and foodsaver the extra, 2) Hope you took a shot of the temp gauge :P
