I'm not much of a jazz fan, but I really liked their second album...and that song "The Boy from New York City" sure was a catchy tune. They did a good cover on "Route 66" back in the mid-80s.
But I don't see how they were related to the Navy... -
i'm not revisionist either. i just find it fascinating that the bombings of hiroshima and nagasaki were relatively "no big deal" in terms of what was already being done.
during the course of the war, tokyo would have been lucky to have "only" been hit with the atomic bomb. ...even two of them. -
it's getting so you can't even say "honky" these days
-
Oh, I get it. That little thing with you sarcastically refersing a percieved bigotry.
A group of Honky's didn't attack us, on our soil, unprovoked. -
Yes they did, only we called them Krauts..
-
and i thought jap always stood for Jewish American Princess
-
on our soil?
-
There really isn't a comparison between then and now..
-
calm down.
sheesh.
totally unable to have any fun?
i'll make note.
signed,
a honkey kraut -
Of course there is a comparison. I just made one.
-
There are 5 German U-Boats off the coast of NC alone. Add to those all the cargo ships those U-boats put down off of North Carolina.
I have dove on the U-352 many times. It sits in 122ft. of water 18 nautical miles Southeast of Beaufort, NC.
There are a couple U-Boat in NY harbor too. Least we not forget about the thwarted German plans to bomb NYC. -
And which of those attacked us on our soil?
-
technically that was a contrast. Civilian vs. Military opponent.
Pearl Harbor wasn't supposed to be a total sneak attack. The Japanese Ambassador delivered the Declaration of War too late.. -
they did attach US interests, killing US citizens (merchant crews) .. .roosevelt was really looking for an excuse to enter WWII in europe, but there was way too much sentiment in the US against that (after the losses in WWI) . . .he best bet was to get into with japan first as there would be much more willingness on that side given the racial issues (look how willingly we put US japaneses citizens in camps in the west for 4 years but we never put US germans in camps even though eastern cities were full of german spies). . .so even though german U-boats were operating in full view of the delaware and carolina coasts with inpunity, it took pearl harbor to allow him to get us fully into the war. . .
-
no he didn't. ...he delivered it exactly when he was supposed to, after the attack. . .what revionsist history are you reading? the entire attack plan was predicated on secrecy ..yamamato's greatest fear was being discovered prior to the attack. . .
-
you could also call them "round-eyes" i guess, in Bacchus' context.
hahaha -
No arguments at all with your statements Max.
Pete said (well, inferred) we were attacked "on our soil" by the "krauts". That is what I disagree with. -
The whole thing could have been foiled if not for the mistaken identification of the Japanese fighters as an early delivery of expected planes from the mainland US.
-
i think he was just makin' a funny. playin off the other 'honky' reference
...it's an odd day when i am defending CW
-
yep, lots of warning were given, none heeded, like the sinking that morning of the mini sub at the entrance to pearl harbor....thats partly why both kimmel and short got sacked afterward (although they were partly made scapegoats - its amazing that mccarthur and kinny, even with full knowledge of what had happened earlier in the day at pearl harbor, got caught with their pants down at clark field in the philipines, and yet there was no price to be paid by them!) . . .
-
Actually there were at least three attempts to destroy US interests on US soil by the Germans. They were never carried out because the leaders of the attacks turned themselves into the FBI.
German's landed on US soil. Just because the attack was thwarted doesn't mean it was not an attack.
I do believe that 18 nautical miles Southeast of Beaufort is well with-in what the US considers US soil, even if it is wet. -
So attacks that were never carried out are, in fact, attacks, even though they never happened?
I don't follow that logic. -
I'm not 100% sure it's so different BUT...
“Because the past is just a good bye”
We need to never forget what any of our forefathers have done…Appreciating and more so, learning from the rights and from the wrongs.
I salute those who serve and have served!!
For right or wrong reasons…They served and should be held in high! -
In fairness, I changed my post to read "on our soil" after CW respnded. I forgot about the Nazi Honky's there for a bit...LOL
-
Your notebook is full of misinformation anyway. Making assumptions of someone's tone often leads to it.
-
just as you assumed my tone.
tell you what, easy way to not misunderstand me is to not read my crap. lots of folks do it. droves of folks not reading it. feel free to join them. -
No I enjoy it Nancy. Especially when you say no one has the stones to stand up to you.
And if you recall a few months ago when you threatened to take your ball and go home, I was one of the ones who urged you to stay because I enjoy reading your post. And still do, because I have the stones for it. -
Good post Leroy.
And we should never forget, like other tragidies.
Mike -
"nancy"
when you run out of things to say, start calling people names.
i'm going to back away slowly, because Leroy started a thread about something a little more sober than your snit with me.
i just thought it odd that a guy who had nothing to do with Pearl Harbor felt it was a shame it was no longer ok to call people "japs" because of the PC police.
i'm not going to break down your lack of accuracy on your other point. i didn't understand your motive of weighing in offline that "everyone is saying you are an Assh*le except for me", as if you wanted to be my buddy.
i know i'm an ass. but from what i hear around the campfire, the possibility that you TOO could be an ass hasn't occurred to you in the least.
keep reading my foolishness if you want. i shouldn't have said you ought to stop. but replying. feel free to not rely then.
apologies to leroy for mucking up his post. -
according to an email i once got it certianly aint short for jalapeno :laugh:fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it
