Has anyone encountered a problem with bears or other wildlife while cooking overnight?

never seen a bear go near a lit grill, now if you left a greasy drip pan in after the cook i could see that being a problem. the wild bears stay away, its those dumpster feeders you need to watch out for.

Thanks - we do have a bear problem and I didn't want to attract them up on my deck with an overnight cook - I'll be sure to clean up after the cook.

AlaskaC has, but she left her Brisket on TOP of her refrigerator..

Critter prefer to stay away from anything hot.. Plus I am thinking most bear are sleepin' right about now..

I'd be more weary of your neighbors.

Where in NC are you besides the mountains??

I have a Raccoon that inspects my patio ever night, I think . . . I don't leave anything where he can get into it so it is no problem. Unfortunately I live in a man made world where wildlife is very rare.

Intersting post. Judging from some of the documentaries I have seen with bears(grizz) tearing into SUV's for a doughnut, I dont think a 250deg grill is gonna stop a bear from "snooping".
I had one rip open a cooler on a camping trip once.

Not read the other responses, but I've done plenty of camping in bear country with my eggs. Keep your site clean and hang your food when before you go to bed. The smoking hot egg will probably not be something they want to get into. Bring the pots and pans into the tent with you in case you get a visit...just clang him outta there.

You weren't even talking about camping! LOL. I have camping on my mind....need to get into the hills with a backpack (plan on new years eve in West Virginia).

Anyways, same rules apply. Don't drop a hunk of fat right on the deck next to your egg, clean up your stuff, and you'll be okay.

I've taken photos of four bear about 50' from the back door of the house. Not interested in having them climb up on my deck with the BGE.

from experience black bears dont like smoke and fire, i wouldnt worry about it much. oreo cookies are another matter :laugh: you will have a black bear around your camp all week if you feed it an oreo

they also like bird feeders so keep those far away from the deck, lost three feeders the first week i owned my camp in maine.

Yes, we always take in the bird feeders at night because of the bears - the bears also LOVE hummingbird feeders.

its on one of the rivers that enters sebago lake, not many bears but they show now and then. the moose are more a hassle, almost lost the dog last year with a moose attack. as for being fishless....
