    I definitely will update as we move forward. I am contacting everyone who touched the egg before the auction to see if someone mistakenly glued ehd cap on. If so, I think I can torch it out and finally loosen. Thanks for your thoughts. This is a great product and you guys and gals that are part of a great fraternity.

    i still can't imagine it is glue...

    if left on hot, and with an egg where the DFMT doesn't sit right, it will clamp itself on good. my small did it, and after just a couple days, when i pried it off, there was a ring of rust where the thing contacted the sides of the chimney.

    i'd contact the charity folks and find out who donated it. no reason it shouldn't be under warranty.

    to have it happen to two eggs is pretty slim odds. was the OTHER egg also from the charity auction?

    Second egg was from same retailer / provider so we think, there in lies the culprit. I am in touch with the charity folks to back track to assemblier. And, I agree that no warranty will be voided. Thanks for your continued thoughts and I will keep everyone advised of my "egg of worms".
