Therma Pen vs. BGE Instant Read Dig. Therm.?

Is there a difference between the BGE Instant Read Digital Thermometer and the Therma Pen?
Comments

Night and day. Go with the thermopen, one of the best things I have bought.
-
YES! night and day! The BGE only looks like a Thermapen and is not the quick 2 to 3 second read. That's the reason there's a big difference in the price. HTHRe-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

Kinda like comparing a hot dog to a Mad Max Turkey :woohoo:
-
Not that much different. They are at least both thermometers.
:woohoo: -
If you are measuring something that doesn't require an instant read (low and slow) then the BGE Thermometer is fine.
However, where the Thermopen really shines is that 3 seconds per measurement vs. 10 seconds. You are cooking steaks or burgers at high heat. You open the lid and start measuring the 5 or 6 steaks you have on the egg. 18 Seconds or 60 seconds over that high heat - choice is yours. -

King of like saying a 3 cylinder car is not much difference than a turbo charged V-8. At least they both get a vehicle moving.
Must say one of the first times I have seen not such good advice given on the forum.
I love BGE stuff, however, the Thermapen is a much better item and well worth the price difference.
Just my 2¢

I was responding to hornhonks analogy.. Try reading my post under trlower's and not a response to someone else before critizing me.

"Not that much different. They are at least both thermometers."
Guess it depends how the punctuation is read...
"Not that much difference!" sarcastic
"Not that much difference." fact
Got your point and you are correct.
XOX, GG -
It is a fact that the BGE Thermometer and the Thermopen aren't as much different then hornhonk comparison of a Hot Dog and a Turkey. Unless that hot dog was a turkey hot dog..
The punctuation was correct for what I was responding to, but thank you for the grammar lesson..

i think that just as he may have misunderstood your tone, you misunderstood his. he wasn't correcting you. he was acknowledging it....
ah well.

I read all the replies to your post and got a little kick out of the "grammer lession".
However, I must share a most recent experience with Thermoworks and the New Super-Fast Thermapen I purchaced this summer past.
My unit experienced very small hair like cracks in the lense and continued over time like a crack in the windshield of a car and spread to the handle. Only recently did I bring this to Thermoworks attention and I am now, today, in possession of a brand new unit - thanks to Amber at Thermoworks.
I originally had a problem with spending a hundee for a "thermometer". But after several months of use and now this outstanding, did I say OUTSTANDING, customer service I'm totally sold on the product and the company.
Hope this helps. -
i knew whatcha meant. was just joshing. CW got his ire up quick over nuthin, is all i meant
