Pre-Seasoned DO?
EggTurner
Posts: 108
I had to season the Lodge CI skillet and grill pan that I bought years ago. The dutch oven that I purchased the other day was factory seasoned. Some reviewers on various websites are negative about this pre-seasoning and urge removing it and then seasoning yourself; others think it is fine and get right to cooking. What have some of you experienced with factory seasoned Lodge cookware?

It should be fine to cook with out of the box, IMO.

I just got a Lodge preseasoned DO last month and it's worked great for me. All I did was rinsed it out first and ran a clean sponge (no soap) over it.

I washed mine out and seasoned it myself. Didn't like the look of their coating.

We got the XL Lodge skillet pre-seasoned and it has been OK. Our other skillets we seasoned ourselves and over the years I think they have performed better as non-stick than the pre-seasoned one. IMHO they work better when you season them yourself.

I've got two of the pre-seasoned CI skillets and they cook fine. I would do it again.LBGE Katy (Houston) TX

i have one preseasoned fry pan, made the mistake of cooking down some tomatoes in it, it flakes now. any one of those guys saying to remove it and reseason have an easy way to remove it.fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it

YEP!!! Cook down tomatoes HAHAHA

I have bought both.. Can't tell the difference now. If I have a chance I will season it again; just because.

ive had the old fashion season your own peel off with tomato bases with long cooks, but this preseason one is frustrating. you get it looking good and then a month later the tiny bubble flakes start again and it could happen while making bacon of all things now. was thinking trying the oven cleaner overnight and seeing if that cleans the preseasoning deeper into the pores of the iron before reseasoning it again.fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it

Sounds like you got one that wasn't properly prepped for seasoning before it was.
Get out the drill and wire brush bit. -
I have had some luck getting old crud out by heating it with white vinegar in them. Just be sure the level is over the crud & do not let it go dry.

I have a Lodge, preseasoned CI skillet that I use for blackened fish and it works great.
