How much rub?
Cactus Doug
Posts: 341
Planning on doing a cook soon with 25 to 30 slabs of baby back ribs. Any one out there have any idea on how much rub (in lbs) I will need for all those ribs?

What are you going to use? I did a search and did not find an answer on Sunday. Sorry I do not know how much. Mine were a tad salty.

Doug...Of course this is just an estimate....but figure 1/4-1/3 c (or 4-5 oz rub per slab)...so you are looking at 6 to 8 lbs of rub. This also will vary depending on the rub....some have a high salt content, others a high sugar content. May want to calculate more in the 10 lb range for a low salt rub.....Just my opinion....

Make sure you taste the rub before rubbing so you know which way it may tend to go...salty or sweet. Would hate to see you over salt 30 slabs....so season accordingly. -
Howdy Doug. Ribs are not thick like butts, so you don't have to pack the rub on. A good solid coating on the meat side, and a light coat on the bone side will do ya. In my experience a pound of rub should season at least 12 slabs of ribs. 3 pounds will be more than enough.
Happy cookin....party??

Just thinkin, actually 2 pounds should be plenty.
But, as Little Chef says, taste it first. Some rubs can be really salty.
Cheers

I guess I should be saying "lather, rinse, repeat" right?

Thanks for the input. I have 2lbs of dizzy dust and about 3lbs of homemade. As for the event, I have almost completed the building of a large offset smoker at work (have 3 eggs at home). My crew at work has been working long hours six days a week for the last two months. I think a little Saturday lunch BBQ is in order.

Always good to cook for the crew! They'll forget about them long hours real quick-like.
Good luck with the ribs! My guess is that 2 pounds of Dizzy Dust'll get you through. Let us know how much you use, we get that question a lot and I always figure 6 slabs per cup.
If Little Chef is right, we could sell a bunch more rub ;-)
Happy cookin!

When has she been wrong
