  • Just burn it off....a fresh load of lump will cure your problem.

I have a large with a bad gasket and I've never had any mold. Had the large for about 1+ years. I have a small and it always seems to mold. The small gasket is in great shape. I've only had the small for a about a month and it seems to mold after every use. I wonder if the better seal keeps in the moisture.

Other than burning off the mold i was wondering if anyone found a good way to keep the mold from growing other than using it more. With two eggs they both get used abouut once a week.

Hotcorn...In agreement with all the above....Clean Burn!! Load up the lump, light it, open the egg up, and let it rip! (Fair warning, though it is not a guarantee, this process has melted a gasket or two......but they are easy enough to replace if necessary).
Also, if your pizza stone or plate setter are dirty, toss them in too....they will come out looking like new.
And wash the grate by hand if it is ceramic.....

SGT...You are correct that the easy fix is to use it more....but also keep in mind, it isn't the Egg that molds...it is the food drippings that are the culprit. We make sure we use a grill brush on the grid after the cook (while egg is still hot) to eliminate residue from sauces, etc....and exercise caution trying not to spill drippings or sauces onto the side of the egg itself. Even being in So Florida, mold has been an infrequent issue with these basics followed. Hope this helps! :)
