Which remote thermometer
Brokersmoker
Posts: 646
Which one is the most reliable, durable etc? I have walmart special, worked fine till last night and all indications are the probe fried, so I would like one with replacable probes. Been looking at the ET-73, not real familiar with any others. I was'nt really looking for a fan attachment at this time but not ruling it out either. All suggestions appreciated :S

If you DO decide to go with a draft solution there are really only two in the market. The BBQ Guru makes the digiQ II and cyberQ. Rock's BBQ makes the Stoker. You will find many opinions of both on this forum. Both are good products but personally I chose the digiQ II. Both links are below.

I like the Maverick and used to use it exclusively. Now I usually use a Stoker and connect it to my wireless LAN. It's really convenient. Clearly the price of a Stoker is alot more due to the auto-temp control system/fan... (but I can check the temp of my cook from my mobile phone

Reliable? Then not the ET-73. Go to Bed, Bath and Beyond and get a Polder. Mine is still running after 7 years.

I have 2 ET 73's and they heve been reliable for me so far. For the price they are a good investment.

I have an ET-73 and seldom use it to it's designed capacity. Why? guess I'm challenged! But I do use it from time to time for sake of just the meat probe temperature monitoring unless I can find any of my cheaper and easier to use wireless thermometers. One thing I will say though - my first ET-73 didn't work and I emailed the company service dept to complain and never heard back. That didn't set well with me so I got on the Internet and found their corporate directory. I sent emails to the president on down through the next 10 layers of management listed. I only heard back from one person - somewhere in the middle of the corporate ladder and he sent me a whole new ET-73 and just told me to pitch the crappy one I had which I gladly did!Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

Cheaper and easier to use - from where this time of year I cannot find any in the stores. I like the remote capability, abd the one I have still works fine (except for the probe)

Over the years I have bought one from several sources which most times have been on the Internet. Once ACE had them and I bought a couple locally. They really aren't lifetime purchases IMO! Quite recently WOOT sold them for $12.99. Otherwise you can find them here and there. As I posted last night the probe replacements are NOT always compatible - sure, they fit the hole, but don't read the same.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

These people were plesant to work with.

i concur....i used my 73 one time... it broke.... numerous emailed finally got me a free new probe.... i'm afraid to try the new one.... hate to deal with failure....and start the complaint process again.... a personal quirk of mine... i'll just do the leg work and check the temp with my trusty thermo pen.....

addendum.... i meant to post my "i concur" post in response to RRP ... oops

I've had my ET-73 for almost 2 years now. No problems at all, except I burnt up the pit probe! My fault. :woohoo: Bought a replacement probe and all is well. From what I've seen out there I would buy another ET-73.
