I've been using a Walmart special no name internal temp thermometer and something shot craps..... LLL, or HHH are the only internal meat displays, thought it might be the batteries, but same thing. Only been used since late August, no markings on base or unit to go online and search. Does anyone have a similar experience, any help greatly appreciated

if it has probes and it was in your egg above 400 (or so) probes proabably shot. keep the thing if it has a clock on it i have two "timers" that used to be probe thermometers but i ruined the probes by having it in a egg that was too hot::

your probe is fried so you'll need a new one - most cost about $12 so it might be cheaper to start with a new thermometer and probe! Recently WOOT had wireless ones on sale for only $12.99 so look around.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

Are the probes interchangeable, say from a maverick et-73?

Ben, Sounds like bad probes. My maverick did something simular and it was the probes. I called Maverick and they sent me new probes free! Tim

i don't know i went with a guru that had probes and later on they got high temp probes..
so for me i talked my wife into a guru cause i didn't want to keep collecting "timers"...
i told her "i only need two" so i got a guru and a thermapen and my cooking got better

more than likely no they won't match up well - I have purchased replacements and have to test them in boiling water to know how far off they are and then compensate for that error. That's why I say get new unit with probe.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

Whatever you do - get a Polder or a Thermoworks. don't get another "no name."

Supposedly all of the probes plus the units come from just two Asian manufactures! I know for a fact that my expensive Sharper Image wireless unit is nothing but a Maverick with a different colored case and name. Likewise the Polder is just a popular name brand, but compare it others. Likewise my ThermoWorks unit is identical to my Pyrex brand. IMO name recognition is fine advice for some things, but these things are not lifetime purchases and once a probe is fried it's a 50-50 chance to get a replacement probe that works.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time
