BBQ Basket for Veggies?

Hello everyone!

Long time no see. I was here earlier in the summer but we had some housing issues (Our house flooded. My mom has been living out of a hotel and I was too until classes started up) so I had to stop egging. The biggest downside to the BGE is that the large isn't exactly portable... luckily that's the only downside I've found so far :woohoo:

If you see this, SeattleTodd, sorry we never met up. Would love to do so in the future sometime though! Things got a little hectic once the house flooded.

Anyways, a couple of questions. I'd really, really like to get my mom an Eggcessory for her birthday. I knew in advance what she wanted, and, after ruining the surprise (would've had to be done anyways because I don't know her hotel address) I got the general feel.

She is basically looking for some way to grill and/or smoke vegetables easily. A "Grill Basket" is what she called it. A detachable handle or the ability to fit the handle into a large Egg would be key, and she doesn't want non-stick. Anyone else use a grill basket for veggies and have advice or a favorite to recommend? A plus if it isn't expensive, but I'd like to get her a quality one so if it is, no big deal. I'm a poor college student, so I'm going to consider it expensive no matter what :P

Also, I'm probably going to BBQ (or smoke as us up North call it, but for some reason I've managed to pick up on the southern jargon) something this weekend. What is your favorite meat as a leftover? Time isn't a real concern (I have all day Saturday), just tasty and good frozen/reheated, as I'm just cooking for myself, but I want to bring copious quantities back to college. Right now, I'm leaning towards a pork butt because it was pretty darn tasty even after freezing, but I'm open to suggestions :D

Thanks!
Kyle

  • I think most Ace hardware stores, Walmarts and Menards carry the veggie basket for which you are looking.

Also, I would think any place selling grilling accessories will have that item.

Pork butt seems a logical choice to me.

    Good cooking.

Kyle, Sorry to hear about your flooding issues. :(
What area are you and your mother from?

I got my veggie basket from a hardware store. I don't think it has handles on it and it's made by webber. I don't remember how much but its not to much.

Depending on how much food you need to take back to the dorm room. One or two or three up to five or six pork butts will fit on the large egg if you have a couple food grates. Then you can freeze all you need and feed your self and anyone else that is hungry. Tim

I hope things get better for you all.

I've found good prices on BBQ accessories at places like TJ Maxx, Marshalls and Ross. You never know what you will find on their sale rack but it's worth a look if those stores are close to you.
  • This basket works pretty well.Easy to handle and holds a fair amount of veggies, shrimp etc.You can find this or something similar at any cooking store or hardware store
Sorry to hear about the flooding.
