Our sole local fish monger named Dixon's has fresh stone crab claws on sale for $12.99 a pound. That's $3 under their price last year. Hard to believe but it was just 3 years ago when we first learned of this wonderful gift from the ocean! Of course we heard of them on THIS board! BTW here's a picture of the beauties I bought last year...that tiny round thing in the picture was a quarter dollar for size comparison. GREAT eating is on our calendar!

Well, they are already cooked before shipped - I think that's by law so I just steam them in a pot with a strainer that keeps them above the water for a mere 5 minutes. Then since that shell is VERY hard I smack them with a hammer and then using metal crackers finish the job to chow down! If you're interested I'll be glad to share the Joe's Stone Crab sauce recipe which kicks this over the goal posts!Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

They are so good! Had them at Dicks Frogs Legs in your area a few years back. They don't get this far north usually.

LOL - excuse me but where is ****'s Frog Legs located? I'm essentially in a corn field in central Illinois, USA and that's probably why I never had heard of stone crab claws until some Florida eggers let the cat out of the bag...seems some down there wanted to keep that delicacy to themselves!Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

here you go...
1 Tbs Colman's dry mustard (though I prefer 3 Tbs)
1 cup REAL mayo - not that fat fee stuff
2 tsp Worcestershire
1 tsp A-1 sauce (only reason I keep that in my refrig)
1/4 cup of heavy cream
salt to taste
mix all real well and chill until served
Furthermore I serve the claws with hot melted butter with a bit of garlic powder - each of us get our own butter warmer.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time -

one other suggestion...a piece of disposable plastic tablecloth cover which can be wadded up and disposed of in a jiffy! BTW this is not a meal to use your fine linen!
