First Eggsperience

After having my new large Egg delivered yesterday morning (Gertrude), we decided to have 12 people over for dinner. My experience with eggs was eating pulled pork and burgers cooked on one, but had never used one myself. I have been voraciously readign this forum for the last few days to try to prepare.
We decided that before attempting smoking, the first outing would be grilling. I succesfully got her lit, and got the dome to about 375. I tossed on a pork tenderloin stuffed with pear, toasted walnuts, blue cheese and craisins, wrapped in bacon. I then put on a few slabs of bread slathered in olive oil to toast for our bread salad. Having to open the egg a few times for the bread showed me the importance of controlling the fire with the bottom vent! I took the bread off and after about 15 minutes, I added a basket of corn on the cob, while rolling the pork to the other side.
Meanwhile indoors, thanks to this forum, I had been hot tubbing 4 filets. I pulled the corn off, refilled the basket with peppers and onion and put it on the grill. Then I pulled the pork off and put 4 sausages on.
After the pepper were done, I started bringing the dome up to temp. As it crossed 600, I pulled of the sausages, and put the filets on, 90 seconds per side. Then, while they rested, we got everything together and served our guests. The patio was immediately silent and we knew our first Eggsperience was a huge success.
I can't wait for the next adventure! (we'll take pictures next time)!

Wow, you cooked for 12 guests your first time cooking on the egg?! That's gutsy. I'm glad it turned out well for you. My first cook was a pizza, and I hadn't yet learned that you need to wait for the stinky smoke to clear before you start cooking...pizza tasted like I'd cooked it over a burning tire.
Congrats to you, and welcome to the cult. -
Sir, I salute you. My first cook was burgers, only burgers, for just me and the wife.

Alan801,
Welcome to the club. That is one heck of a maiden voyage. Like others, my first cook was quite conservative -- a simple steak. Sounds like you have a good handle on things and you can look forward to even better cooks in the future. Please do take some pictures.
