I've been to Lowe's, Home Depot and Academy. Everyone has Cowboy brand. I'm looking for some of the stuff on NakedWhiz's site that has very low ash production. I found one place (kinda far) that has Royal Oak Brazilian. Walmart just has the regular RO briquettes. I'd like to find Ozark Oak. Anyone have any ideas.

Walmart garden section -- go for the Royal oak. Make sure it is the made in USA stuff. They have B&B as well if you like.

There are a few places, the grill doctor(?) etc that sell Ozark oak in the Dallas are, but probably too far for you.

  • Most of the Walmarts carry the Royal Oak Lump-it is outside in the garden section. If you look inside all you will find are the briquettes.

One more, you might find Picnic ad Fiestamart. It is a very dense charcoal good for overnights, but hard to light and lots of bad smoke early so not a great weekday charcoal.

  • Haven't tried the picnic-one other place, might try Fort Worth Butane out on Haltom Road-they have several different varieties of lump including the BGE brand-plus they are the local distributor of BGEs and are great people.
  • You can buy Ozark Oak at BBQ Outfitters in Southlake. It is right off of HWY 114. The owner, Paul, is a great guy and runs an outstanding local business. Loves egg too!

Ditto - that's my dealer. They're on the westbound access road between the exits for 1709 and Kimball. Added bonus - right near Costco and Central Market.

Elliot's Hardware in Plano carries it.......I know that is far for you, but thought I'd throw it out there in case your ever over here to the east side of the Trinity
  • I get Ozark Oak at The Grille Shoppe on Belknap. Exit Carson? off 121 going east from downtown. Good stuff I think I paid 4.95 for 10 lbs.

  • Awesome. You guys rock. Didn't know there were so many Eggers in my neck of the woods.

Yep-Grille Shoppe is FW Butane-with the rocket ship out front!
  • Foreman's over in grapevine / colleyville has a good selection.

Any of you coming to Plano Nov.7?
  • I second what hornhonk asked. Seems like a lot of folks in the DFW area.

He is hostng a great get together of Eggers in Plano on Nov. 7. Several of the posters on this thread appear to be newbies (at least to the Forum). DOn't be intimidated by a gathering of Eggers.

I've been Egging for 4 years and on the Forum for a year, but have never been to a Fest, so this will be my first one. I am driving 6 hours, so some of you guys (and gals) can drive an hour or so.

Contact "hornhonk" and let him know you are coming. Good way to put a face with some Forum regulars, eat some good food and learn about Eggin'. :woohoo:

You've got me beat, I'm only driving 2 hours.
  • BBQ Galore in Grapevine or at Foreman's on Grapevine Hwy in Colleyville. Foreman's also sells their store brand at 1/3 price of BGE lump charcoal and it works just as well.
  • Thanks guys. Went to the Grill Shoppe yesterday and got 3 bags of Ozark Oak.

Wish I could go to the fest Nov 7th, but I'm busy that day.
