Buying an BGE in Australia

Hello,

Is there other Aussie's here I have seen a few posts not sure how many are active here but here goes.

Seems that the only distributor of the BGE is Australia is BBQ Galore who are still going inspite of the US arm going into Chater 11. Anyway contacted them and they quoted $1695 which is about $1500USD at the moment.

No movement on price take it or leave it so I suspect paying full retail. Is there any other source for these things in Australia??? The dude I spoke to at BBQ Galore was interested in selling the Kamado too.

The other thing that spooked me was when I asked about accessories, spares and back up. They don't carry any "but I am sure we can get them" can you imagine. Trying to kit up with all the nice accessories that BGE have and I would certainly be wanting to buy some of those.....as I am an all the gear and no idea kinda guy! :):)

Is there an online store you can buy the BGE accessories from in the US?

Be interested in was is the going rate for the Large BGE in the US just to get a feel for pricing or what is possible.

Cheers,

Fleetz

  • The Egg is the one thing you can't get on line with a warranty. As far as accessories you can get almost anything on line even from E-bay and Amazon. Other companies like Ceramic Grill Store, Fred's Music and BBQ, Grate Mates and some others have some great accessories for the Egg which are available on line. What size Egg was quoted at $1500USD? An XL with a table I hope. ;)

I think you are getting off light if you are even looking at a large. I paid...taxes in about $1460 Canadian when our dollar was about 0.94 US. I did get the plate setter thrown in and the extended grill for 1/2 price. I would think shipping would be a wee tad less than going to australia.

  • Sorry Fleetz but the BGE company has an aversion to internet sales.

Galore has a monopoly in Australia and usually will not do deals on BGEs. They mainly use them as a comparison point to convince punters that their big shiny Turbo gas barbeques are great value.

I paid just under $1,000 AUD nearly five years ago for my large BGE. It came with an egg nest but not much else.

I am amazed they are still in business. Not only did they file for bankruptcy in the US but the controlling entity(Ironbridge)also lost heaps when the Gold Coast boat building company they owned went belly up earlier this year.

I would check into shipping it from the us. I cant believe it cant be shipped for less than 800.00 that you are paying extra. I would try a shipping company that ships in containers on a cargo ship.

Hmmm depends on if you your best mate is a President of a company in San Fran and does a lot of business in Australia. :);)

Not fussed about the warranty because we have no back up here. Would be happy to and perfer to buy here where the local distributor actually backs you up, stocks the accessories and knows the product, but they don't do either! With respect I was informing the local guy about features and function of the BGE, they were the authorised distibutor!! Why would I pay top dollar for that!

You guys in the US are very lucky coz the market there is so mature and ahead of what we are doing here it is not funny!

99.9% of BBQ sold here are hot plates and grills or standard weber type BBQ's and anything out of the ordinary like BGE or WSM BBQ's are not understood so not a lot of BBQ places stock the BGE or specialist smoker type BBQ never alone understand what they are selling. Two specilaist BBQ places I just contacted asked what a Webber Smokey Mountain was, and they are Webber agents!! :woohoo:

I am wanting to do the right thing but it has to be returned in kind. If I gotta go to the US to do that then fine...we are on the same side as you guys!

    Cheers,

I agree with the same side. I'm sure someone on this forum knows the shipping business. I work at the port in Tampa. If you have no luck with a response, I bet I can find someone here for you to contact. Let me know if you don't have any luck.

Thanks HungryMan appreciate your kind offer.

Got confirmation from BGE Co in the US that BBQ Galore and only them are distributing their product in Australia.

So no competition, no accessories or spares back up. They just want to sell you a unit at full whack and dart down a dark hole with the cash! Don't mind paying a premium if the product support is there.

Wondering who around the San Francisco area sells BGE and their accessories and who are competitive with pricing?

    Cheers,
