I'm getting in the habit of putting up some burgers every month so they are on hand for an easy meal. Not wanting to get bored with one of my favorite foods I have been experimenting. This months recipe is pretty good.
I was in Sam's Sunday and found some ground chuck marked down to $1.89/lb. so I grabbed two packages. Each 6.36 pounds. In a large bowl I placed 1/2 a package of ground chuck and added:
1 T Salt
1 T Black Pepper
2 t Garlic Powder (Tone's)
2 t Onion Powder (Tone's)
1 T Minced Garlic (Tone's)
2 T Minced Onion (Tone's)
1 T Garlic Powder (McCormick)
1 T Kitchen Bouquet
1 T Gravy Master
T = Tablespoon t = teaspoon
I found mixing went fairly well with a two tined kitchen fork, about 8-10" long and I was not over handling the ground chuck wich can make burgers dence and tough. With all the seasonings well mixed in I added the other half of a package of meat and mixed it in. This made it easier then trying to mix a very full bowl. When this was done I put it in the frig and tackled the other package. With all the ground chuck seasoned I used my digital scales and weighed/shaped each burger to .636 pounds, 10 to the package of beef. I had also picked up 5 pounds (120 slices) of American Cheese at Sam's. I counted out 4 slices of cheese for each burger and wraped 2 stacks (eight slices) in plastic wrap/film.
Powering up the FoodSaver I sealed 2 burgers and a package of cheese together, dated and froze them.
The seasonings . . .

Sealed & Dated . . .

On the Egg, raised, 500º . . .

Buring off some of those calories . . .

After about 6-7 minutes a side . . .

On for the melt . . .

Almost heaven . . .

In the end I had ten packages for the freezer, 20 burgers. These burgers are large enough one is plenty for a meal. The seasonings are good, I love garlic and onions and this mix works for me with out being overpowering. The Kitchen Bouquet and Gravy Master are similar, you could use one or the other if you don't have both. They give the burgers a richer comfort food quality. These I cooked tonight came out a little over done for me, next time I would pull them about 5º sooner.

I'd much rather have a good burger than a poor quality steak anytime! And those look YUMMEE-DELISH.I'm with you though,a little pinker!

Best post of of the day IMHO. Beautiful, and will try to replicate in smaller quantities this weekend. Always inspiring to see the melt. :woohoo: Can't beat a good burger.

Gator Bait, love the ease of the "pre-prep" and the "burning off" of the calories :woohoo: Great post, GB

Thanks Marc, they are very good. I had to try a few before I could post. I didn't want to post a recipe I didn't like.

Nice burgers Gator

Thanks Mazeppa, these were well worth the effort in my opinion. I may have to try adding mushrooms to this recipe and use swiss cheese.

Thanks Desert Oasis Woman, I like watching those calories go up in smoke. At 9 calories per gram they tend to go up fast at 500º.

Thanks Ross, I was happy I kept notes when I put them together.

Gator, I have never wanted a cheeseburger at 5:54am more than I do right now, thanks

Gotta love burgers! Those look really good - and getting a bunch done ahead of time is a great idea! ...note to self !

Hahahaha, thanks Zippy, I know that feeling all to well myself. The drool factor on this forum can be rough.

Thanks Julia, I am single and on a limiting budget and it lets me take advantage of the lower prices of bulk. Sam's grinds there hamburg fresh every day so when marked down to $1.89 is a good deal. The FoodSaver is great, it will let me store meats perfectly far longer then I need.
Good luck with your weather, LOL Fairfax sounds like the North Pole.

I have to avoid carbohydrates because of diabetes so no bun or bread to help fill in around the edges. The four slices of cheese are just pure indulgence. :woohoo:

Thanks, Serial Griller, I didn't post until I had a chance to try a couple of them. The last batch had a lot of raw onion in them and they talked back to me, if you know what I mean.
These are much more user friendly.
Always happy to share a recipe,

Great Idea. Looks good to me I have been wanting a food saver for a while. However I also want the adjustable rig from the Ceramic Grill Store. Can only ask so much from Santa
-
Hi George, I hear ya, tell Santa that if you go to the Bed, Bath & Beyond web site and sign up for the "email sign up" at the top of the screen. You should receive a coupon in your email for 20% off any one item. In the future you should also get similar coupons in the snail mail. This is about the only way I have found to get a deal on a FoodSaver. BB&B carries two models the cheaper one for 140.00 will now be about 112.00. So far I love it. I get rolls of bag material at Sam's. $40 for 5 rolls, 3/11" and 2/8". My steaks and other meats are very well protected and are perfect when defrosted.

Thanks Gordon, now if I could make them fat free and still taste as good. :cheer:

Thanks Dale, I was puzzled as to how much of everything to use so this was a true experiment. I'm happy with the results.
