I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

I can think of 2 that I have eaten at that should be on the list.

Wilbur's is decent, but I have had much better.
It seems a whole lot of NC BBQ restaurants have forsaken traditional wood fired cookers for gas and that shows in the quality of their product. -
Sweet...two of 'em right here in River City. Gotta try them out.

Well, it would, wouldn't it? Don't tell me Wilber's has converted to gas!! I haven't been there in quite a while... it's a little out of my way here in New England. Much easier when I lived down that way.
I think Hursey's in Burlington is pretty good, and Ralph's in Weldon. Both are convenient, depending on where I'm headed. Wilber's isn't, but I like it better.
The Skylight Inn in Ayden is supposed to be good. but I've never been there. My ex sister-in-law used to rave about Short Sugar's in Reidsville, but I haven't tried that one either.
So name some names. So I'll know how far out of my way I'll have to go next time I'm in Variety Vacationland.

You missed Allen Brothers on the outskirts of Chapel Hill.

I've been to Jack's and Mary's in Nashville, Moonlite in Owensboro I am there every couple of months for lunch (outstanding lunch Q buffet), and A&R in Memphis, all are outstanding and worth a stop if you're nearby! :woohoo:

Thanks, Rich. I hadn't heard of that one. Another to add to my list of Q joints to try. I don't get down that way as often as I used to, but next time I'm in Chapel Hill...........

Still using wood for some OUTSTANDING BBQ putting Wilber's in Goldsboro to shame. Hush puppies not all that good but homemade ice cream to kill for.

Pete Jone's in Ayden,NC is the grail for eastern NC BBQ (whole hog cooked over wood daily. Wilburs in Goldboro,NC has made a comeback and cooks on wood still but not sure about cuts. I've been to both in the last three weeks.
Pete Jones serves only three menu items.... dixie trays of cole slaw, slab of corn bread, and whole hog BBQ lightly seasoned but it is very rich with bits of crunchy skin. That is confidence and very telling IMHO. BTW, their parking lot does not have parking lines so just pull up wherever you can find a spot.
