That was simply great. Can you imagine how happy those little guys must be after going from flower to flower to get tiny little drops of nectar? Drop by the Chicken Ranch instead, there is a whole swimming pool full of the stuff just waiting!
Thanks for the video. -
Leroy you are amazing.........beautiful video TKS for sharing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice video!! I was wandering about you Hummingbird food. Looks homemade. Does 1/2 cup of sugar to 2 cups boiled water sound ok?
-
JR he explained it in a previous post. 3½ cups water (boiled) to 1 cup of sugar. Let cool to room temperature and pour into clean bird feeder.
-
Excellent Leroy, and a perfect choice of music too. It looks just like our feeder, just replace the Hummingbirds with Bees
-
moved a feeder at camp last weekend, then 15 minutes later there was a swarm of bees returning to where the feeder was, literaly hundreds arrived looking for it. got out the badminton rackets and swiped away.fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it

Don't plant any of these things next to your door.
Sedums are bee magnets.
-
wont be planting those then, im already a magnet to bees. ive had a few hundred bite days with those little jackets, its to the point that i almost dont notice a yellow jacket biting me. now those wasp swarm attacks are killer  i hate bees and they seem to know itfukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it

Hey Spring,
I love the video! I have taken a page from your book.
Using .5 C sugar in 1.75 C water. If they like this feeder I will add more. I found the feeder like yours at Ace Hardware.
Thanks for sharing,

that totally amazing! We must have a different culture of hummers up here as they only feed one at a time. Even if one is feeding and another approaches there is a fight and away they fly!

Hi RRP,
Hummers are very aggressive, I have watched them down here in the winter time defend a favorite perch that catches the morning sun. The common solution is to put up more then one feeder. Some people put them on separate sides of the house, some people put them together, I'm not sure it matters. It is almost impossible for one bird to dominate more then one feeder and this seems to break up the hostilities.
I will be finding out I hope. I just put up feeder number 1 a few minutes ago and will add them if needed.

one works for me, i like the aerial combat shows. they get sneaky, two will move in with one hiding behind a tree, the second gets the aggressive one in high speed pursuit, then the other moves in to feed, then they change it up. ive never seen hummers do whats happening with spring chickens feeder, maybe he is adding a little rum to the mix :laugh:fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it

ours dont do that, either something happens with the migration runs, or we just have unsociable yankee birds :laugh:fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it
-
I guess it could be those Yankee birds, I know some of the people are the same way! LOL. I had to live on Mount Desert Island for over six months before anyone would give me the time of day. Spend a winter with them and work with them and it is a different story. Learn to talk like them and they think you a long lost relative! Pay for the case or keg and your adopted on the spot.
If it weren't for the winters I would probably still be up there. Gotta love the fishing up there, probably what I miss the most.
