Wok on XL hanger - question

I have the XL hanger from the CGS. It is a rectangle that you can lower or raise. My question is this - when I put the wok on the hanger, it wants to rock back and forth, which is natural for a round bottom wok sitting on two rails, essentially.

Does anyone use a wok with the XL hanger? If so, how do you keep it from rocking back and forth as you stir the contents of the wok?

Thanks,
Richard

Don't have any of those items yet, but isn't the wok usually sitting in the spider?

There isn't a spider for the XL. Tom offers the hanger, which is a rectangular hanger, so the wok is sitting on two parallel rods, and of course it wants to rock back and forth.

I've only used my wok (on a large) once. I don't have a spider or any other device to hold it, so I set it directly on the coals. It was awesome. And very stable. :)

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Hey thanks for that - triggered an idea. I do have the XL lump reducing ring (LRR) (which I used tonight for the flatiron cook and then the wok cook). Might as well just set the wok on the LRR - no hanger needed. It will be hotter, but stable. I'll give it a try next time.

    Thanks for your comment! ;)

  • I use a wok on the hanger on the XL and simple hold it with my off hand - gloved of course.

I did that as well, but tonight notices that my glove was smoking! I had visions of the glove melting on my hand... Plus, I'd like it to be stable without having to hold it.

If you ever find one of the Weber 22" Woks buy it.
They fit perfect in the XL flip ring.
