On my patio are two large and one small patio storage boxes, an old kitchen cabinet serving as smoking chips (gasser days)/ chunks storage, and an empty planter bowl filled with those really big charcoal pieces saved for long cooks.

In the patio boxes are tools and pizza stones and plate setters and adjustable rigs/Woo and grids and drip pans, for two different size Eggs; and protective gloves and chile racks and rib racks and chicken leg/wing racks and V-rack and Guru and pizza screens and basting brushes and Bear Paws (luv 'em!), and more etc. etc. etc.

You know what? I use all of it at different times. But the crowded clutter is driving me bananas and I NEED TO DO SOMETHING! I want my patio back! The garage is on the opposite side of the house and not an option.

Help or therapy, whatever you can offer!

Hahahaha! Good luck Judy! I'm in worse shape. Most of the stuff is in my house. Mostly invading my used to live with me son's bedroom. Got a 10x12 shed in a box in the yard

  • Miss Judy,

I probably don't have as much as you but what I did was store my platesetter on the second shelf with gloves and wood planks. I hung my grid extender, wiggler ash tool, three level rig, fire box cleaner, and beer butt chicken stand from my table. I have my lump in one of those Kingsford thingys from Lowe's. My garage is on the other side of the house so I keep xtra lump, wood chunks, and disposable drip pans there.

I'm in the process of adding another shelf below the second one for add'l items not yet acquired. I cover the whole shebang with a BGE table cover. The shelf came to me due to moving my lg BGE around on my patio the cypress is starting to stretch. :S

Therapy would be best, I think. ;)

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

All these answers are giving me a belly laugh!!! But I gave the gasser to my kids, no taking it back now or they won't let me see the grandchildren.

I'm thinking Harry Potter's invisibility cloak is the only answer.

  • I hope the cypress doesn't give way altogether!

Your description of hanging things on the table made me think of the itinerant peddler's wagon from the early days of our country's history. I think we're really going backwards in time with our smoking fetish!

    Judy,

I seem to be able to store most of my eggcessories in this drawer under my small and this 22 x 22 plastic tub thingee with a tight lid that slides under my table. I do keep my Guru though in a pistol case and keep it inside. My wok is in a bag in the garage along with the lump storage.

Please, let me know if some genius system comes to you in the middle of the night.

As for that unused bedroom...THEY COME BACK TO LIVE WITH YOU!!!! Well, some do, and hopefully for a very short time. Out of my four, three did that with me in the early days.

The unused bedroom is full of a lifetime collection of stuff and I've been selling it off on eBay. There's no room for BGE equipment.

You do have a great answer--working storage into a table. My two Eggs are in nests, though, and I'm not planning on getting a table or having one made, and that never occurred to me. But now I see that could be a solution in the future.

I too keep lump, woks, and the new replacement fire bowls still in their cartons in the garage. I got those oversized ziplock bags for the woks and they really keep the rust off, not that we get a lot of rain here. But summers are humid.

A tall chest of drawers that didn't look bedroom-ish would be a lot more practical than a patio box.

    Thanks for the ideas!

It's gonna get WORSE?! I already have the egg, platesetter, baking stone, v-rack, assorted utensils, original grate, CI grate, raised 14" grate from Weber, a second wok (my other one has a long wooden handle), a grate scrubber, ash tool, daisy wheel, ceramic cap, homemade thingie to clean out the holes in the ash grate - and 10 bags of lump.

It's all just sort of laying around here and there. :)

  • Oh, yeah. I didn't even mention my three raised grids and a few other things. It gets MUCH worse. :S

    Hi Judy,

I don't have a lot of space, I love my patio bench by Rubbermaid. It is actually comfortable to sit on. I store my lump in a clean trash barrel that seals tight.

  • Thats funny, this is how my wife uses the egg.8434_1102895861221_1491453364_30241048_2366339_s.jpgShe just dumps everything on the egg when she uses the gasser.
  • That is a really pretty bench/box! But that's just 1/3 of the space I need.

  • Stu:

That IS funny! I guess a reciprocal dumping works well, unless you want to light both at once!

  • Have an old TV unit I built for my sons while going to college (just a few feet from my eggs) and a side table
where I keep smoking wood chips in plastic containers.

  • Yes, Frank, oh yes! We're getting closer! I was mentally putting my stuff on your shelves. That would be a BiG help. I'm letting it percolate.

    That's a dandy gasser Randy. ;)

Never owned one, but if I did.....
  • We use a cedar wardrobe with shelves that we picked up cheap at a yard sale. Works great!
  • I didn't know this style existed. I will certainly check it out! Thanks.

  • Does wardrobe mean it has doors? I can't quite picture it. But it has given me food for thought.

There is one brick-walled area of the back of the house (back of fireplace) that would be perfect for a taller (than patio box) storage unit, wouldn't be obscuring windows or sliding glass door. Boy, am I motivated after all these great suggestions.

    Thanks,

    Judy,
Here's my 2 cents worth. Large locker for lump, chunks, trays, racks, pans, etc.
Small rubbermaid for the greasy grids, ajdustable rig, etc.

    100_1323.jpg
  • That is a great standing unit. Is it a plastic like Rubbermaid, or some other material?

I've never seen that door design before; it look's like it's perforated and you can hang things on the outside of it. Can you give me more on the material and manufacturer?

    Thanks a lot!

I built this rack out of PVC and egg crate (light diffuser material). It sits under my gasser.

  • That is so organized! And everything right at hand. Would it be stable if it was several feet high?
