Okay, I went to the mothership today and picked up my new NOMEX. I still have to get the 3M Super 77 adhesive and the acetone.

Any tips other than what is in the directions?

Greg

  • Don't stretch the gasket as you apply it. If you have one of those lint rollers that is made of sticky tape you may want to roll that over the gasket to remove loose particles so the gasket and glue will adhere a little better. The gasket is wider than it needs to be. If you dont trim it, let the excess hang on the outside. It wont look good, but if it is hanging on the inside the flames will hit it. If you trim it, get a level, or some other straight edge, and a very fine tip sharpie and draw a line of what you want to chop off, and use a good, sharp pair of scissors.

    hi east cobb

Make sure the surface is clean, meaning non tacky,
do more rubbing than scraping, scraping might damage or chip ceramic if not careful. Have patience, above all
    watch this web-site www.fredsmusicandbbq.com
He shows you how to install a nomex gasket.
    good luck BullyC
  • I have had my nomex on for over a month now. It did shrink up between a 1/8 to 1/4 inch. So allow for a little shrinkage.

wow... that's scary... I put my nomex on today. I hope it doesn't shrink that much I am going to have gaps. I was careful not to stretch it while I was putting it on, I actually was pushing back on it to stuff it back. Will know tomorrow I guess... If not I will be doing it all over again.
  • If you throw it in the drier on high heat for about 15-20 minutes it will pre-shrink the gasket enough that it will not shrink on the Egg.
  • I did not pre shrink the gasket on my large and I have a 1/4 inch or so gap at the back where the gasket meets. I use it to put the probe wires through. I did pre-shrink the gasket on the XL and no shrinkage noted.
