ops rain on cast iron grate

can not believe i must have left my lid open. long story short lots of rain and my grate has rust on it.

i did a 500 degree cook for over an hour and it still seems to have issues. what is the right thing to do.

Scorer it real good with a GREEN Scotch Brite pad. If it is really badly rusted a bit of white vinegar will do a number on it.
I would lather on the oil (canola or lard) and actually season it with a long low burn, either in the Egg or the oven. Works wonders on CI cookware and I can’t see that it wouldn’t do the same on a grid.

get a wire wheel brush from lowes or homer depot, couple bucks. per the link, ace too. it's a universal gizmo.

use with a drill, so make sure to get one with an arbor to fit inside drill chuck. it's a little messy so outside project. will take about 10 minutes to clean the grid, actually you'll have one more beer just playing and cleaning, kinda fun distraction for a saturday. then reseason to protect.

Buy an extra wire wheel for the next time you forget to cover the CI grid. the wire wheel is carbon steel, no biggy on cast iron.

Good advice I have a very very old cast iron Pan from my grandmother I will clean both together.
