Getting Bolts off to install eggmates

hey all,
i have a large big green egg and am trying to install the egg mates. the bolts that attach the rings have been stripped so it's not possible to get a good grip with a wrench and are also bent. any advice on getting these off?
thanks!

If they are that bad just cut them off. You won't be able to reuse them anyway

I had to cut one of my bolts today with a metal hack saw. I was able to pull the o-ring off and saw on it on my deck, but I was not happy about it.
-
Can you get a grip on the nuts with a pair of vice-grips? I'd give that atry before a hacksaw.

Dhilton,
Do you mean the carriage bolts?

thanks for the replies. little steven, the bolts are the two that connect the upper and lower rings. i have a picture. how do you upload on here??
thanks! -
Dhilton,
You use a program like photobucket. Upload the pics from your computer and copy the [img.] file. I am not that good at it.

lets see if this works....

Dhilton,
Man, when they said bend the bolts, you took them at their word. I would get a small pair of channellocks and hold the head of the carriage bolt and loosen the nut with a box end wrench. Give it a good shot of WD40 first.

yeah, no joke! i didn't put these on... had a really bad experience with the dealer i got it from.
any other tips as far as the process of getting the rings off? i'm assuming it is best to put the plastic attachments on for the spring. this is going to be my weekend project so i'm trying to get prepared! -
Dhilton,
You want to put some kind of keeper on the bands. A couple of ty raps will do. I forgot to mention, when you are backing off the stripped nut, put some weight on the wrench. That should help engage a clean thread. If that doesn't work, try a sawzall on the carriage bolt.

It looks like they tried to get the bands would meet.

FYI, you don't have to remove the top bolt to install the Egg Mates. I bought my Mates the day after assembling my Egg. I was dreading redoing the bands. I put the plastic hinge locks in place and removed the lower band's bolt. With the bolt removed there is enough flex in the band to slip in the Egg Mate's four attach screws. In the end it was rather simple.
My bolts were bent, but I was able to reuse them without any issues. However, the nut on mine wasn't stripped... -
So I got the bolts off and the egg mates installed! it wasn't too hard of a job although it was VERY hot in NYC today. thanks for the tips!
