How many chickens in a large?

New large egg owner. Want to do a bunch of beer can chicken for several friends. About how many can I stand up in a large egg? I usually use 4 lb broilers.

I've done 5 at one time. However they didn't fit Beer Can Style. Just laid them on the grill. (Breast up and in-direct.) They turned out fine. It fed 14-16 people.

I do 4 birds in the 4.5+ range all the time. Have done 5 but that is really crowding and requires rotating the cooking grate about every 15 minutes to eliminate hot spots. I recommend sticking with 4 of the largest birds you can find and I think you will be very happy with the results. Good luck.

Yes, standing on some cheep holders I have. Have used beer cans in the past. Don’t waste your time adding any liquid to any cans you may use. Never been able to tell any difference with or without liquid. Just a waste of good beer if you ask me. Good luck and let us know how you come out.

I agree with above on 4-5. I do 4 all the time and don't have any problems. I always use 1/2 beer in each can for steam in the chicken. Definitely adds flavor.
