Okay, so I've done a search already on here to see if anyone had posted a recipe for boiled peanuts. But, all i've seen are some ideas, so....

Does anyone have a good boiled peanut recipe? I like the low country types as well as just the regular boiled peanuts boiled with just salt.

Times and amounts would be helpful, even if it's like, "eyeball this" or "a pinch of that"

Thanks for all the help as always!

Mr Google is our friend. I get then pre-boiled and then place in a crockpot with water. If I want hot I add chopped jalapenos or couple Tbs cayenne.

I like mine a little spicy so I mix salt and cajun seasoning. I add water to the peanuts to cover a couple of inches, measuring how much water I use. I then add a half cup of salt and a half cup of store-bought cajun seasoning per gallon of water. Bring to a boil. Cover and cook medium, adding water if needed, for about four hours. I start checking them for doneness after four hours. I've gone as long as six hours. If you don't like the spice, stick to salt. One cup per gallon of water.

Awesome, thanks for the help. I picked up some Old Bay Seasoning, so hopefully that'll add the cajun flavors that I'm looking for.

Old Bay will work. Since the standard plain boiled peanuts call for a cup of salt per gallon of water, just taste the Old Bay to get a sense of how salty it is and adjust the amount of salt per cup accordingly. The cajun stuff I usually use is mostly salt.

Hey Nick...PoppaSam does some pretty mean boiled peanuts. He was even so kind as to bring me 5 lbs of them last year at Eggtoberfest. His is next to my dad's. I'll try to get that recipe for you.

Careful with that "Old Bay". It is tasty stuff indeed but can easily overpower something real quick.

Hi Nick, Welcome to the forum.

I grew up in New England where boiled peanuts are something to scratch your head and wonder about. It took a good southerner to teach me the pleasures of a good boiled peanut.
I haven't made any in quit a while but used to make them in a crock pot. I used Publix's raw peanuts. I might get flamed for this but they are not fresh but dried. Fresh raw peanuts down here are expensive and sold in small quantities. A bag of Publix raw peanuts as I recall would just fill my large crock pot. After adding the peanuts I would add as much water as I could, and I think I as only using a couple tablespoons of salt, cover and set the crock pot to high. After an hour or so I could add more water as the peanut shells had soaked up some and the shells were also filled with it, the peanuts no longer floated. The small quantity of salt I was using is probably equal to the amounts others have replied, the crock pot uses less water. They don't call the crock pot a slow cooker for nothing and the peanuts would take between 20-24 hours depending on how well you like them done. I would stir them and check on the water level a few times during the cook. I also recommend sea salt or kosher salt as iodine does nothing good for the flavor.

I have not found any great boiled peanuts this far south, we do not see the roadside stands like they do north of Gainesville

Call these people and see if they sell in a store near you. Been using the product for over 10 years and just used my last frozen bag today. Got to get some more for the freezer. We like the Cajun variety.

    Hi Richard,

I used to be able to get Hawks Boiled Peanuts just down the street at the Circle K and liked them. Then a couple years ago they remodeled their stores and started carrying a different brand not as good. I need to call Hawks and find out who has them locally or go back to making my own. The trouble with making my own is that all my freezer space is dedicated to the egg. ;)
