Anyone have source of dried shitake mushrooms

Anyone have a reliable source for dried Shitake mushrooms?
I'm in North Atlanta (Woodstock)... online would be ok but would rather find somewhere local where I could buy in bulk (a-la 1 lb bags).
Would prefer a personal recommendation from someone that has actually purchased.
Looking to get them at a resonable price and not some of the rip-off prices you see online or from Harry's/Whole Foods.

I have not bought Shitake mushrooms in the Dekalb Farmers Market, but that would be my first choice.
Every time I am in the area Eggtoberfest and at least one other time a year, that is my bust the bank trip.
Great selections. Call them. If you have a problem I have some great oriental grocery stores here in Florida.
Not sure how far from you.

Your best price is gonna be at an Oriental market. Not sure about quality though. Some Italian markets carry them too.

well. was gonna say Whole Foods (or as mrs. essexco puts it, "Whole Paycheck"). that's where i can find good dried shrooms. but not cheap and not in 1 pound bags. you have any asian markets nearby?ed egli avea del cul fatto trombetta -Dante

WPB...Absolutely, go to an Asian Market. You can easily tell the quality by looking at the product. Don't feel the need to buy the "top of the line"...highest price shrooms. Middle of the road provides decent quality, too. Also, when rehydrating, I try to soak gills down. This helps ensure any (occaisional) grit will fall to the bottom. If you use the rehydrating liquid, (which I DO recommend, as it adds so much flavor!) stop pouring before you get to the bottom. You'll see the sediment, and know when to stop.

I'm curious... why japanese over chinese? although the Chinese do have a somewhat tainted reputation for foodstuffs.

I going nuts . . . I saw bags of them recently and now I can't remember where.
I think it was Sam's Club but I'm not sure. If it comes to me I'll let you know.

There's a chain of stores around here called Ocean State Job Lots that stocks all sorts of dried mushrooms including shitake. Looks like the bags hold a decent quantity and they're less than $3 as I recall. I haven't tried them though...and CT/RI is a long way from GA
