Wil, you have it right, I've noticed that the dome temp is typically 20-25° higher than that at the grid level. The difference narrows as the the cook progresses and the Egg warms through.[p]

Wil, I did some testing one time and found that the difference was anywhere from 15 to 40 degrees depending on the temp I was monitoring. Maybe it was a fluke but I found it only 15 degrees at the lower end (about 225) but peaked at 40 when I was at about 450 and then dropped to 25 degrees as the temps got toward 600.
