Meatball calzone

I made my first calzone last night. Made homemade meatballs and cooked them in a pan on the egg on a raised pizza stone:

Removed them from pan, and let then brown up on the other side

Cut them up and placed on homemade dough with a vodka tomato sauce, six cheese italian blend cheese and shredded parmesan cheese. Placed it on parchment on the egg on raised pizza stone. Cooked at 400 for 20 minutes til the cheese started running out of it:

Wow

The bottom was perfectly brown, the cheese all melty

Yes it was as good as it looks, not too much sauce so you could pick it right up and eat it. I will do this again for sure!

LOL, I wish I could take credit for the Italian but the translation was provided by Babel Fish.

Now THATS what I'm talking about!!! Some serious food you eat by hand.
And kudo's for going the extra mile and doing both steps on the egg. -
Dang Faith, that almost looks as good as a hot-pocket
Just kidding, looks great girl :woohoo: -
Looks great. I like it really saucy, nothing like wearing your dinner home

Congratulations on the homemade crust, so many people will not go that far. I always used to make my own pie crust and experimented till I got it right. My Mother and Grandmother always told of how Gram used lard in her pie crust so I started playing with it. LOL, the ol' girl knew her stuff, I found that using 1/3 lard and 2/3 butter in my crust gave me a crust that would literally melt in your mouth, nothing would come close to it. Do you, or have you ever tried lard in your crust?

Fantastic looking cook there Faith. I have got to try this.
There is a pizza shop here that makes what they call a Pizza Bender. The Pizza Benders are much like your calzone with the exception of the sauce inside.
They offer the sauce (at and extra cost) for dipping, which for the most part makes it a hand held meal.
Now the Pizza Benders are great but they don't have the eye appeal of your 2nd to the last picture. That is just beautiful.

I agree!!! Well done.

WoW! Is that in the recepie section?

That's my kind of eatin' ! Another thing on my list! Man that looks good!

For real, I might cry this time....

Thank you, everyone. For my first one, I was quite pleased. The trick, I think, is not to make it too saucy so you can still pick it up. Whenever I order it out it is too heavy and messy to pick up - this wasn't.
Give it a try - it's easy and very good.
