when roasting do you recommend using a plate?
When smoking do you recommend using a plate?
I want to use it this weekend. What is something easy and goof proof I can do. I was kinda wanting to do a pork roast. -
For both of these, I suggest using a "Plate Setter" which is a BGE Eggcessory used for indirect cooking at low/slow temps. Go "legs up" on the Plate setter then place a drip pan on it and then your grill. There is also a thing called a 'V-Rack' to place your meat on.

Check out the Naked Whiz's site. Tons of great info.
You will need to learn how to regulate temps first.
But as for a simple cook. Pork loins are easy. Coat with a nice rub and cook at 350 dome temp to 143 degrees internal. Let dwell for a few minutes. That will hook you!
One quick note: As the temperature is rising on the egg, start closing the vents BEFORE you get to the desired temp. It is easier to raise the temp than lower it! -

Congratulations and welcome to the forum.
First off, what kind of roast do you want to cook, sliced pork or pulled pork?
What size egg do you have?
No, 99% of the time, you won't use a "table plate" when using the egg for roasting or smoking.
Midnight Smoker in his above post has posted a link that will be very helpful to you, you should bookmark the information. That post also has a link to The Naked Whiz Site, again a lot of great information.
1st thing, please watch the video, all of it, that came with your egg.
Next most important thing, take a minute to calibrate your dome thermometer. If you don't know how post a question.
This link will give you some general vent settings for different temperatures and will get you started.

Chicken is a very easy food to cook and will always give good results if cooked to proper temperature. Yesterday, there was a question on how to cook chicken, this link will give you some ideas.

All this should give you something to do for a little while anyway.
