Transporting a Large Egg

Im planning on taking my large egg on a camping trip in September.
I will transport it in the bed of my p/up truck.
Im looking for any advice as far as removing the fire ring or padding it with cardboard or bubble wrap.
Just trying to do this without doing any damage to its innerds......is this a word?
It will be about a 175 mile trip one way to the campgrounds.

    Brought mine home in truck bed. Just removed the top and set it and the inside pieces as you call them on a moving quilt and all was fine. Put the pieces back in realigned the lid and all was fine.

    Being a dealer, we move them around all the time. We take the insides out, and just have someone help you lift it into the truck. Make sure you ratchet strap it down. We also usually pack stuff around the outside of it, just in case. We've moved quite a few this way.

    i built a carrier and just leave it all together. i slip corragated cardboard between the dome and base and loosen the bands so that they fit flat and retighten them, then i tie the dome closed, reset the dome when i get to the destination. my carrier is stainless, but you could make a wooden one like alot do with the small to cradle the large

    Thanks for the tips, I will remove the guts and pack them seperately.
    I will definately strap down the egg, may fabricate a transport crate as I have the materials and the tools needed to complete the project.
