All looks sooooo good.
My favorite bake (I hate myself for not takin pictures of it) was a super simple but very delicious peach cobbler last fall. One of those dump everything in and let it do the rest kind of cobblers. -
cobbles are so good and so easy on the egg!! the trick to the topping of biscuit is to not put any right on the edges touching the dutch oven so it does not burn. it needs to bubble and burp.

There seems to be a lot of baking going on on Eggs. Before I got my Egg I was what the food magazines are now calling a foodie. I have a kitchen full of pots and pans and nice oven and lots of gadgets.
My question is why would you do something on a Egg that is somewhat more difficult to do on one or it just doesn't make a difference if you do? Like the lasagna for instance....I don't understand the benefit of doing it on an Egg over an oven, other than it doesn't heat up my kitchen. The same for some of the other things I see.
Don't get me wrong, I think I may try some of these things but I don't see myself trying to do things in my Egg that I can do a lot easier on a stove.
I'm open to having my mind changed though!!! -
Morning Ron:
To me part of it is just the "challenge" of trying something on the Egg instead of that box in the kitchen (plus not heating up the house).
Click HERE for a lasagna dish we did recently (Quartet of Pork).
I also like the added "wood smoked" flavor, even if I don't add any additional smoking chunks. In my mind, if it can be done in the oven, then I should do it in the Egg.Have a GREAT day!

Hi Ron, I am a foodie too LOL I have a very nice double wall oven that hardly gets used now. As jay said part of it is the challenge of making something work in an egg and part of it I just really enjoy cooking on my eggs. Ours go camping a lot with us and I like knowing that I can do entire meals from apps to dessert on there and it is not going to be burgers and s'mores. when you have a couple people to your camp site and turn out puff pastry with brie and chutney and pesto pin wheels and then a 5 star dinner and maybe bananas foster for desert if is a little more satisfying with out being that much more work. especially if you are comfortable doing it. LOL plus we all like showing off a little

This is a whole new world for me, as I'm the world's worst baker. I've only done a couple of simple desserts on the Egg so far, but looking at this thread I know that's gotta change. Thanks for all the ideas, guys and gals.
-
Showing off I understand!! I don't think that there is a one of us that puts up a picture that doesn't have that in us. I just had to ask my question. I see the camping aspect. I don't camp though....never again after doing it wearing green for all those years. I think that some of the things, like casseroles and cakes and pies I'll probably leave for an oven or use my Nesco sitting beside the Egg. I do see myself in the very near future doing pizza though and bread. I've got all the pizza "accessories" now so it won't be long. I also just bought a bag of Frito's scoops. Gotta try the stuffed Frito's!!!

Here it is Gary - glad I saved the recipe. I looked up one on the internet and adopted it to the Egg. It was good.
Apple Pie Pizza
5 apples
3/4 cup fine sugar
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon cinnamon
Bake apples at 350 for plus or minus an hour
Peel, core, and slice apples. Mix apple slices with sugar, flour, and cinnamon. Place apple mixture on pizza shell.
Place strips from three thin slices of sharp cheddar cheese on pizza
Cover with crumpled topping
Crumple Topping:
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon sugar
Dash salt
1 tablespoon butter, at room temperature
Combine the flour, sugar and salt in a bowl. Using a fork, cut in butter until mixture is crumbly. Sprinkle over top of pizza.
Indirect at 550 until it’s done -
Dumb question: Can I forgo the cheese ?
Tell me ice cream was put on top to make it Pizza ala Mode ?

Someone posted a Super Easy Jambalaya recipe on this forum, I forget who it was. You bake it for 30 minutes with the pan covered in foil, then for the last 5 minutes you bake it uncovered if it still has a little too much water, which mine always has. I cooked it several times on the egg, and then one day I decided to do it in the oven. The one cooked in the oven was not near as good because it had no smoke flavor. The 5 minutes uncovered, with no wood chunks or chips added gave it the perfect amount of smoke.
-
LOL that is how it all starts. I could not imagin doing anything sweet on the egg when we first got it. all it asid to me was smoke and beef! but then I did bread and pizzas and cinn rolls... and it was all over. the third egg we got was supposed to be for baking. no fatty drippy stuff. Now I just do a good burn after I cook in it if it is messy.
-
Sigh.....I need to move down to a part time job so I can do all the neat stuff with an Egg. I'm tired of all this not having enough time to experiment!!!!
-
Absolutely. I think I added the cheese. There was a little italian restuarant just off campus went I was in college. About once a month I would save up enough to go splurge. I ordered the apple pie once and he asked if I wanted cheese on top - a first for me and I thought it was good.

Ice cream would be mightyfine
