I am about to fire up my egg to throw a shoulder on. It's just under 8 pounds so I am anticipating a 14-16 hour smoke. Will I need to refuel the egg for this long of a smoke? If not GREAT!! If so, what's the best way to do it? Just take everything out and add I guess?

Put in enough lump and you won't need to refuel.

Fill it to the top of the fire ring.

    Hey TwoSpot,

Welcome to the forum. If you can give some details with your questions it will make it much easier for people to answer them.

What size egg you have, what lump are you using and what temperature you plan on cooking at will all effect how long your fire should last.

For example, my medium BGE, loaded to the top of the fire ring with Royal Oak lump running at 230º will burn for well over 20 hours. Plenty long enough to cook a large butt.

    Thanks,

    Gator

Fill it up. I have done a 19 hour before without refilling.

Since you have an XL, no.

I haven't used an XL so that aside.

On a large or medium, filling to the top of the fire box will give you more than enough time 20 to 30 hours on the large.

You can also fill to the top of the fire ring if you are concerned.

Thirdeye has a great tool, grid lift and reasonable price, which makes it very easy to remove the grid in case it is needed.
